But when he reached the Benjamin Gate, the captain of the guard, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah, arrested him and said,“ You are deserting to the Babylonians!”

He got as far as the Benjamin Gate. But the captain of the guard arrested him. He said,“ You are going over to the side of the Babylonians!” The captain’s name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah. Shelemiah was the son of Hananiah.

When he was at the Benjamin Gate, a sentry there named Irijah the son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans.”

But as he was walking through the Benjamin Gate, a sentry arrested him and said,“ You are defecting to the Babylonians!” The sentry making the arrest was Irijah son of Shelemiah, grandson of Hananiah.

But when he was at the Benjamin Gate, an officer of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, and he apprehended the prophet Jeremiah, saying,“ You are defecting to the Chaldeans.”

While he was at the Gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah the son of Hananiah was there; and he arrested Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans!”

And when he was in the Gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard was there whose name was Irijah the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are defecting to the Chaldeans!”

And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou art falling away to the Chaldeans.

But when he was at the Benjamin Gate, an officer of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah, and he apprehended Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are deserting to the Chaldeans.”

And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward[ was] there, whose name[ was] Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he took Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou fallest away to the Chaldeans.

But he only got as far as the Benjamin Gate. There an officer in charge of the guards named Irijah, who was the son of Shelemiah and the grandson of Hananiah, stopped him. He seized Jeremiah and said,“ You are deserting to the Babylonians!”

When he was in Benjamin’s gate, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ You are defecting to the Chaldeans!”

宫中的臣宰古实人以伯．米勒，在王宫里听见他们把耶利米关在井里的消息（那时，王正在便雅悯门坐着），

全地，从迦巴直到耶路撒冷南方的临门，都要变成平原；但耶路撒冷仍必屹然耸立，从便雅悯门到第一门的地方，到角门，又从哈楠业楼到王的榨酒池，都在原处。

凡留在这城里的，必因刀剑、饥荒、瘟疫而死；但出去向围困你们的迦勒底人投降的，必可以活着，捡回自己的性命。

控告他说：“我们查出这个人煽惑我们的同胞，阻止纳税给凯撒，并且自称是基督，是王。”

也不能向你证明他们现在控告我的事。

玛坦的儿子示法提雅、巴施户珥的儿子基大利、示利米雅的儿子犹甲、玛基雅的儿子示巴户珥，听见耶利米对众民宣讲以下的话：

于是他们唆使众人，说：“我们听过他说谤渎摩西和神的话。”

我们看这个人就像瘟疫一样，是煽动普天下犹太人生乱的人，又是拿撒勒派的首领。他还意图污秽圣殿，我们就把他捉住。（有些抄本在此有以下一段：“我们想按照我们的律法审问他。7可是千夫长吕西亚来了，用武力把他从我们手中抢走，8还吩咐原告到你这里来。”）

我听见许多人耳语：“玛歌珥．米撒毕！告发他，我们要告发他！”我所有的知己朋友都等着看我行差踏错，他们说：“希望他会上当，我们就可以胜过他，向他报复。”

他们说：“来吧！我们来设计对付耶利米；因为祭司的律法、智慧人的谋略、先知的话都不会断绝。来吧！我们用舌头攻击他，不理会他的一切话。”

于是王吩咐古实人以伯．米勒说：“你从这里带三十个人，在耶利米先知未死以前，把他从井里拉上来。”以伯．米勒就带人进王宫去，到储物室下面的一个房间，从那里取了些破布烂衣，用绳子缒下井里给耶利米。古实人以伯．米勒对耶利米说：“把这些破布烂衣垫在你的腋下，然后束上绳子。”耶利米就这样作了。于是他们用绳子把耶利米从井里拉出来；这样，耶利米可以住在卫兵的院子里。后来，西底家王派人去把耶利米先知带到耶和华殿中的第三道门那里去见他。王对耶利米说：“我要问你一件事，你什么都不可以向我隐瞒。”耶利米对西底家说：“我若告诉你，你不是要杀死我吗？我若向你建议，你必不听从我。”于是西底家王私下向耶利米起誓，说：“我指着那创造我们生命的永活的耶和华起誓：我决不杀死你，也不把你交在这些寻索你性命的人的手里。”耶利米对西底家说：“耶和华万军的神、以色列的神这样说：‘你若出去归降巴比伦王的将领，你的性命就可以存活；这城也不会被火焚烧，你和你一家都可以存活。

我照着这一切话对犹大王西底家说：“你们要把颈项放在巴比伦王的轭下，服事他和他的人民，就可以生存。你和你的人民为什么要因刀剑、饥荒和瘟疫而死，正如耶和华论到不肯服事巴比伦王的国家所说的一样呢？

于是众领袖对王说：“这人应该处死，因为他向这城里剩下的军兵和众民说了这样的话，使他们的手都软弱无力。这人不是为这人民求平安，却是惹来灾祸的。”

就下到王宫，进入书记的房间里；所有领袖都在那里坐着，他们是书记以利沙玛、示玛雅的儿子第莱雅、亚革波的儿子以利拿单、沙番的儿子基玛利雅、哈拿尼雅的儿子西底家和所有其余的领袖。

现在我已经亲自把这一切国家都交在我仆人巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒的手中，连田野的走兽，我也交给他，供他奴役。

因为万军之耶和华以色列的神这样说：我要把铁轭套在这些国家的颈项上，使他们服事巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒；他们要服事他，连田野的走兽，我也交给他了。’”

伯特利的祭司亚玛谢派人向以色列王耶罗波安报告：“阿摩司在以色列家中图谋背叛你，这国家不能容忍他说的话；

藉着荣耀和羞辱、坏名声和好名誉。我们好像是骗人的，却是真诚的，
