In the ninth month of the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, a time of fasting before the Lord was proclaimed for all the people in Jerusalem and those who had come from the towns of Judah.

It was in the fifth year that Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, was king of Judah. It was the ninth month of that year. A time of fasting at the Lord’ s temple had been ordered. All the people in Jerusalem were told to take part in it. So were those who had come in from the towns of Judah.

In the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem proclaimed a fast before the Lord.

He did this on a day of sacred fasting held in late autumn, during the fifth year of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah. People from all over Judah had come to Jerusalem to attend the services at the Temple on that day.

In the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, all the people of Jerusalem and all those coming in from Judah’s cities into Jerusalem proclaimed a fast before the LORD.

Now in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem proclaimed a fast before the Lord.

Now it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the Lord to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem.

Now it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Jehovah.

And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month,[ that] they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people in Jerusalem, and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.

All the people living in Jerusalem and all the people who came into Jerusalem from the towns of Judah came to observe a fast before the LORD. The fast took place in the ninth month of the fifth year that Jehoiakim son of Josiah was ruling over Judah.

Now in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Yahweh.

約沙法懼怕，便咬緊牙根要尋求永恆主；在猶大全地宣告禁食。

尼尼微人信了上帝，便宣告禁食，從最大的到至小的都穿着麻衣。

『你去招聚書珊所找得着的一切猶大人為我禁食，不喫不喝三天，就是三晝三夜；我也這樣，我和我的侍女也要禁食；這樣，我就不照法令進去見王；我若死，就死罷。』

那時正是九月，王在冬天屋子裏，有火在王前面的火盆中燒着。

『你要張開喉嚨來喊叫，別留餘力哦！要揚起聲來、像號角聲一樣；要向我人民宣佈他們的過犯，向雅各家指明他們的罪。他們天天尋求的乃是我！他們喜歡明白的是我的道路！他們好像行義之國的人！不離棄他們的上帝之典章的！他們向我求問公義的審判，他們喜歡親近上帝呢！他們說：「為甚麼我們禁食，而你不看呢？為甚麼我們刻苦自己，而你不理會呢？」嘿，你們禁食的日子、仍然追求所喜歡作的事！逕自壓迫一切為你們作苦工的人！

『你要告訴國中的眾民和祭司說：你們這七十年在五月間和七月間禁食和舉哀，哪裏真是向我而禁食呢？你們喫，你們喝，豈不是你們自己喫，自己喝呢？

永恆主發神諭說：『如今雖如此，你們還要全心全意來歸向我，以禁食哀哭及號咷來返回。你們要撕裂的是心，倒不是衣服。』要回歸永恆主你們的上帝；因為他有恩惠有憐憫，他不輕易發怒，而有豐盛的堅愛，他並且能改變心意、不降災禍。或者他能回轉、改變心意，留下餘剩的祝福，留下獻素祭奠祭給永恆主你們的上帝的機會、也未可知。在錫安吹號角哦！要行聖禮擬定禁食，宣告聖節會哦；要聚集人民，使大眾潔淨自己為聖；要招聚老年人，聚集孩童，以及在母懷嗍奶的；要叫新郎出洞房，叫新婦離開內室。伺候永恆主的祭司須要在廊子和祭壇之間哭泣，說：『永恆主啊，顧惜你人民哦！不要讓你的產業被羞辱，而在列國中令人談笑哦。為甚麼容人在列族之民中譏刺說：「他們的上帝在哪裏呢？」』

猶大王約西亞的兒子約雅敬四年、有以下這話出於永恆主而傳與耶利米，說：

『萬軍之永恆主這麼說：四月的禁食和五月的禁食、七月的禁食和十月的禁食、都要變為猶大家高興歡喜的日子和快樂的節期；但是真實與和平你們總要喜愛。』

『七月初十日、是除罪日；你們要有聖聚會，要刻苦自己，要將火祭獻與永恆主。

這月二十四日、以色列人聚集攏來，大家禁食，身穿麻布，頭上放土。

祭司啊，腰束麻布而慟哭吧！伺候祭壇的啊，哀號哦！伺候我的上帝的啊，披着麻布進殿去過夜吧！因為素祭和奠祭都從你們的上帝殿中停止了。
