‘ Jehonadab son of Rekab ordered his descendants not to drink wine and this command has been kept. To this day they do not drink wine, because they obey their forefather’s command. But I have spoken to you again and again, yet you have not obeyed me.

“ Jehonadab, the son of Rekab, ordered his children not to drink wine. And they have kept his command. To this day they do not drink wine. They obey the command Jehonadab gave their people long ago. But I have spoken to you again and again. In spite of that, you have not obeyed me.

The command that Jonadab the son of Rechab gave to his sons, to drink no wine, has been kept, and they drink none to this day, for they have obeyed their father’s command. I have spoken to you persistently, but you have not listened to me.

The Recabites do not drink wine to this day because their ancestor Jehonadab told them not to. But I have spoken to you again and again, and you refuse to obey me.

智慧在街上呼喊，在廣場上揚聲；在鬧市中心呼叫，在城門口發出言語，說：“你們愚蒙人喜愛愚蒙，好譏笑的人喜歡譏笑，愚昧人恨惡知識，要到幾時呢？你們要因我的責備回轉，我就把我的心意（“心意”或譯：“靈”）向你們傾吐，把我的話指示你們。我呼喚，你們不肯聽從；我伸手，沒有人理會。你們既輕忽我的一切勸告，不肯接受我的責備；所以你們遭難的時候，我就發笑；驚恐臨到你們的日子，我就嗤笑。驚恐臨到你們好像風暴，災難如同颶風來臨，患難困苦臨到你們身上。那時，他們必呼求我，我卻不回答；他們切切尋找我，卻尋不見；因為他們恨惡知識，不選擇敬畏耶和華；不接受我的勸告，輕視我的一切責備；所以，他們必自食其果，必飽嘗自己所設計謀的傷害。愚蒙人的背道必殺害他們自己，愚昧人的安逸必毀滅他們自己；唯有聽從我的，必安然居住，得享安寧，免受災禍的驚恐。”

他們卻沒有聽從，也不留心，反倒按著他們的計謀，隨從自己頑梗的惡心行事，向後不向前。自從你們列祖出埃及地的那日直到今日，我差遣我的僕人眾先知到你們那裡去，而且是每日不斷差遣。你們（“你們”原文作“他們”）卻沒有聽從，毫不留心，反倒硬著頸項行惡，比你們（“你們”原文作“他們”）的列祖還厲害。

為甚麼我來的時候，沒有人在呢？為甚麼我呼喚的時候，沒有人答應呢？難道我的手太軟弱不能救贖嗎？或是我沒有能力拯救嗎？看哪！我以斥責使海乾涸，我使江河變成曠野，江河的魚因無水發臭，因乾渴而死。

“從猶大王亞們的兒子約西亞第十三年直到今日，這二十三年來，常有耶和華的話臨到我，我也不斷對你們傳講，你們卻不聽從。耶和華雖然不斷差遣他的僕人眾先知到你們那裡去；但你們卻沒有聽從，毫不留心。

因為自從我領你們的列祖出埃及地那一天，我已鄭重警告他們，直到今日，我仍不斷警告他們，說：“你們要聽從我的話。”

耶和華他們列祖的神，因為愛惜自己的子民和居所，就常常差派使者警戒他們。他們卻戲弄神的使者，藐視他的話，譏誚他的先知，以致耶和華的忿怒臨到他的子民身上，直到無法挽救。

“可是他們竟悖逆，背叛你，把你的律法丟在背後，殺害那些控告他們，要他們歸向你的先知，犯了褻瀆的大罪。

因為他們不聽從我的話（這是耶和華的宣告），就是我不斷差遣到他們那裡去，我的僕人眾先知所說的話；同樣，你們也沒有聽從。’這是耶和華的宣告。

你多年容忍他們，你的靈藉著你的眾先知勸戒他們，他們還是不側耳而聽，所以你把他們交在各地的民族手中。

他們以背向我，不以臉向我；我不斷教導他們，他們卻不肯聽從，不接受管教；
