耶利米傳達完耶和華的話之後，祭司、先知和民眾就抓住他，說：「你真該死！你為什麼奉耶和華的名預言這殿必像示羅一樣被毀，這城必要荒無人煙呢？」於是，他們在耶和華的殿裡把耶利米圍了起來。

看啊，我要把這城交在巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒和他率領的迦勒底人手中，讓他們攻取這城。這是耶和華說的。他們必放火焚城，把城中的房屋付之一炬，城中的居民曾在房頂上向巴力燒香、向假神奠酒，惹我發怒。

亞哈斯在患難時越發悖逆耶和華，

如果哪一邦或哪一國不肯臣服於巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒，不肯負巴比倫王的軛，我必用戰爭、饑荒和瘟疫懲罰他們，直到我藉巴比倫王的手毀滅他們。這是耶和華說的。

埃及王說：「摩西、亞倫，你們竟敢煽動百姓曠工！快回去工作！」

我責打你們的兒女，卻是徒勞，因為他們不受管教。你們殺害你們的先知，殘暴如獅子。

耶和華對耶利米先知說：「這是以色列的上帝耶和華的話，『猶大王派你們來求問我，你們告訴他，前來支援你們的法老軍隊必中途返回埃及，而迦勒底人必捲土重來，攻佔這城，將它付之一炬。耶和華說，你們不要自欺，以為迦勒底人必撤軍。其實他們不會撤軍。即使你們能打敗迦勒底全軍，他們營中受傷的殘兵也必起來燒毀這城。』」

質問祂：「告訴我們，你憑什麼權柄做這些事？誰授權給你了？」

又煽動百姓、長老和律法教師抓住司提凡，把他押到公會。他們還派人作偽證說：「司提凡常常講侮辱聖地和律法的話。我們聽見他說那個拿撒勒人耶穌要毀壞聖殿，還要摒棄摩西傳給我們的規矩。」

王說：「如果今天沙法的兒子以利沙的頭顱還留在他頸項上，願上帝重重地懲罰我！」王派使者去以利沙那裡。那時，以利沙正與長老們坐在他家中。使者到達之前，以利沙對長老說：「你們看，這兇手派人來斬我的頭。使者到達時，你們要把他關在門外。他後面不就是他主人的腳步聲嗎？」

耶和華啊，你要的不是誠實嗎？你責打他們，他們不感到疼痛；你嚴懲他們，他們仍不受教。他們屢教不改，臉比石頭還硬。

便從王宮跑去對王說：

這幾位官長就對西底迦王說：「求你處死這人！因為他的話令這城的軍民士氣低落。這人不為人民著想，反要害他們。」

不可再在伯特利說預言，這裡是王的聖所，是國廟。」
