當人們正在說一切平安穩妥的時候，災禍會像產痛臨到孕婦一樣突然臨到他們，令他們無法逃脫。

婦人分娩時都會痛苦不已，但孩子生下來後，她就會因為這世界添了一個新生命而充滿歡樂，忘掉了生產的痛苦。同樣，現在你們有憂愁，但到我再見你們的時候，你們的心必歡喜，而且這份喜樂是誰也奪不去的。

哀號吧！耶和華的日子近了，全能者施行毀滅的時候到了。人們都必雙手發軟，膽戰心驚，驚恐萬狀，痛苦不堪如同分娩的婦人。他們必面面相覷，羞愧得面如火燒。看啊，耶和華的日子來臨了，是充滿憤恨和烈怒的殘酷之日，要使大地荒涼，毀滅地上的罪人。

因此，關於雅各家，救贖亞伯拉罕的耶和華說：「雅各的子孫必不再羞愧，臉上再無懼色。

巴比倫王聞風喪膽，四肢發軟，像分娩的婦人一樣痛苦不堪。

現在你為何大聲哭喊？是因為你沒有王嗎？難道你的謀士都死了嗎，以致你像分娩的婦人一樣痛苦不堪？錫安的百姓啊，你們要像分娩的婦人一樣輾轉呻吟，因為你們現在要離開這城，住在荒野，被擄到巴比倫。在那裡，你們將得到解救；在那裡，耶和華必從敵人手中救贖你們。

臉色驟變，驚恐萬分，兩腿發軟，雙膝顫抖。

大馬士革喪失勇氣，轉身逃命。她像分娩的婦人一樣驚恐不安，充滿痛苦和憂愁。

耶和華讓你結交的盟友來統治你，你還有什麼話可說？難怪你痛苦不堪，就像分娩的婦人。
