I gave faithless Israel her certificate of divorce and sent her away because of all her adulteries. Yet I saw that her unfaithful sister Judah had no fear; she also went out and committed adultery.

I gave Israel their letter of divorce. I sent them away because they were unfaithful to me so many times. But I saw that their sister nation Judah did not have any respect for me. They were not faithful to me either. They also went out and committed adultery with other gods.

She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, I had sent her away with a decree of divorce. Yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she too went and played the whore.

She saw that I divorced faithless Israel because of her adultery. But that treacherous sister Judah had no fear, and now she, too, has left me and given herself to prostitution.

I observed that it was because unfaithful Israel had committed adultery that I had sent her away and had given her a certificate of divorce. Nevertheless, her treacherous sister Judah was not afraid but also went and prostituted herself.

And I saw that for all the adulteries of faithless Israel, I had sent her away and given her a certificate of divorce, yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear; but she went and prostituted herself also.

Then I saw that for all the causes for which backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a certificate of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also.

And I saw, when, for this very cause that backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a bill of divorcement, yet treacherous Judah her sister feared not; but she also went and played the harlot.

I observed that it was because unfaithful Israel had committed adultery that I had sent her away and had given her a certificate of divorce. Nevertheless, her treacherous sister Judah was not afraid but also went and prostituted herself.

And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

She also saw that I gave wayward Israel her divorce papers and sent her away because of her adulterous worship of other gods. Even after her unfaithful sister Judah had seen this, she still was not afraid, and she too went and gave herself like a prostitute to other gods.

I saw when, for this very cause, that backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a certificate of divorce, yet treacherous Judah, her sister, had no fear; but she also went and played the prostitute.

「人若娶妻，作了她的丈夫，發現她有不合宜的事不喜歡她，而寫休書交在她手中，打發她離開夫家，

耶和華說：「人若休妻，妻離他而去，做了別人的妻子，前夫豈能再回到她那裏呢？那地豈不是大大污穢了嗎？但你和許多情郎行淫，還是可以回到我這裏。這是耶和華說的。

耶和華如此說：「我休了你們的母親，她的休書在哪裏呢？我將你們賣給了我哪一個債主呢？看哪，你們被賣是因你們的罪孽；你們的母親被休，是因你們的過犯。

何細亞第九年，亞述王攻取了撒瑪利亞，把以色列人擄到亞述，安置在哈臘與歌散的哈博河邊，以及瑪代人的城鎮。這是因為以色列人得罪了那領他們出埃及地、脫離埃及王法老之手的耶和華－他們的上帝，去敬畏別神，隨從耶和華在以色列人面前所趕出外邦人的風俗和以色列諸王所立的規條。以色列人暗中行不正的事，違背耶和華－他們的上帝，在他們所有的城鎮，從瞭望樓直到堅固城，建築丘壇；在各高岡上、各青翠樹下立柱像和亞舍拉；在各丘壇上燒香，效法耶和華在他們面前趕出的外邦人所行的，又行惡事，惹耶和華發怒。他們事奉偶像，耶和華對他們說：「你們不可做這事。」耶和華藉眾先知、先見勸戒以色列和猶大說：「當離開你們的惡行，謹守我的誡命律例，遵行我吩咐你們祖先、藉我僕人眾先知所傳給你們的一切律法。」他們卻不聽從，竟硬着頸項，像他們祖先一樣，不信服耶和華－他們的上帝。他們厭棄他的律例，和他與他們列祖所立的約，以及他勸戒他們的話，去隨從虛無的神明，自己成為虛妄，效法周圍的列國，就是耶和華囑咐他們不可效法的。他們離棄耶和華－他們上帝的一切誡命，為自己鑄造了兩個牛犢的像，立了亞舍拉，敬拜天上的萬象，事奉巴力，使他們的兒女經火，占卜，行法術，出賣自己，行耶和華眼中看為惡的事，惹他發怒。所以耶和華向以色列大大發怒，從自己面前趕出他們，只剩下猶大一個支派。但是，猶大也不遵守耶和華－他們上帝的誡命，效法以色列所立的規條。

因此，我把她交在她所愛的人手中，就是她所戀慕的亞述人手中。

要跟你們的母親理論，理論，－因為她不是我的妻子，我也不是她的丈夫－叫她除掉臉上的淫相和胸間的淫態，免得我剝光她，使她赤身，如剛出生的時候一樣，使她如曠野，如乾旱之地，乾渴而死。

以色列啊，你雖然行淫，猶大卻不可犯罪；不要往吉甲去，不要上到伯‧亞文，也不要指着永生的耶和華起誓。以色列倔強，猶如倔強的母牛；現在耶和華能牧放他們，如在寬闊之地牧放羔羊嗎？以法蓮親近偶像，任憑他吧！

後夫若恨惡她，寫休書交在她手中，打發她離開夫家，又或者娶她為妻的後夫死了，

「她妹妹阿荷利巴雖然看見了，卻還是縱慾，比姊姊更加腐敗，行淫亂比姊姊更甚。她戀慕亞述人，就是省長和副省長，披掛整齊的戰士，騎着馬的騎士，全都是俊美的年輕人。我看見她被污辱，姊妹二人同行一路。阿荷利巴又加增淫行，她看見牆上刻有人像，就是鮮紅色的迦勒底人雕刻的像。它們腰間繫着帶子，頭上有飄揚的裹頭巾，都是將軍的樣子，巴比倫人的形像；迦勒底是他們的出生地。阿荷利巴一看見就戀慕他們，派遣使者往迦勒底他們那裏去。巴比倫人來到她那裏，上了她愛情的床，與她行淫污辱她。她被污辱，隨後她的心卻與他們生疏。這樣，她既暴露淫行，暴露下體；我的心就與她生疏，像先前與她的姊姊生疏一樣。她仍繼續增添淫行，追念她年輕時在埃及地行淫的日子，戀慕情人的身壯精足，如驢似馬。這樣，你就渴望年輕時的淫蕩；那時，埃及人因你年輕時的胸懷，撫弄你的乳房。」

因他們在吉甲的一切惡事，我在那裏憎惡他們。因他們所行的惡，我必把他們趕出我的殿，不再愛他們；他們的領袖都是悖逆的。以法蓮受擊打，其根枯乾，不能結果，即或生產，我也要殺他們所生的愛子。我的上帝必棄絕他們，因為他們不聽從他；他們必飄流在列國中。

希西家王第四年，也就是以拉的兒子以色列王何細亞第七年，亞述王撒縵以色上來圍困撒瑪利亞。過了三年，他們攻取了城。希西家第六年，以色列王何細亞第九年，撒瑪利亞被攻取了。亞述王把以色列人擄到亞述，安置在哈臘與歌散的哈博河邊，以及瑪代人的城鎮。

因為以色列人必多日過着無君王，無領袖，無祭祀，無柱像，無以弗得，無家中神像的生活。

你不只效法她們的行為，照她們可憎的事去做，不消多時，你所做的一切就比她們更惡。
