耶利米以斯言奏猶大王西底家云、汝當歸誠巴比倫之君民、負軛服事、則可得生。

I gave the same message to Zedekiah king of Judah. I said,“ Bow your neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon; serve him and his people, and you will live.

I gave the same message to Zedekiah, the king of Judah. I said,“ Put your neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon. Obey him. Serve his people. Then you will live.

To Zedekiah king of Judah I spoke in like manner:“ Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people and live.

Then I repeated this same message to King Zedekiah of Judah.“ If you want to live, submit to the yoke of the king of Babylon and his people.

I spoke to King Zedekiah of Judah in the same way:“ Put your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, serve him and his people, and live!

I spoke words like all these to Zedekiah king of Judah, saying,“ Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him and his people, and live!

同一年，就是猶大王西底迦執政的第四年五月，基遍人押朔的兒子哈拿尼雅先知在耶和華的殿中當著祭司和全體民眾的面對我說：

耶利米說：「以色列的上帝——萬軍之上帝耶和華說，『如果你出去向巴比倫王的將領投降，就可以保住你和你全家的性命，這城也不會被燒毀。

如果哪一邦或哪一國不肯臣服於巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒，不肯負巴比倫王的軛，我必用戰爭、饑荒和瘟疫懲罰他們，直到我藉巴比倫王的手毀滅他們。這是耶和華說的。

然而，那聽從我的必安然居住，得享安寧，不怕災禍。」

耶和華對我說：「你要做個木軛，用繩索套在自己頸上。然後請那些到耶路撒冷朝見猶大王西底迦的使者傳話給他們的主人以東王、摩押王、亞捫王、泰爾王和西頓王，

西底迦二十一歲登基，在耶路撒冷執政十一年。他做他的上帝耶和華視為惡的事，耶利米先知向他傳講耶和華的話，他仍不肯在耶利米面前謙卑下來。尼布甲尼撒曾讓他奉上帝的名起誓，他卻背叛了尼布甲尼撒。他頑固不化，不肯歸向以色列的上帝耶和華。

耶和華對我說：「你要對這些悖逆的人說，『你們不明白這比喻的意思嗎？』要告訴他們，巴比倫王攻取了耶路撒冷，把其中的君王和大臣擄到巴比倫，並從猶大王室中選出一人與他立約，要他效忠。巴比倫王擄去猶大國的重臣，使猶大國臣服於他，無法圖強，只能遵守盟約，以求生存。後來，猶大王背叛了巴比倫王，派使者到埃及請求支援軍隊馬匹。他能成功嗎？他這樣做怎能逃脫懲罰呢？他這樣背約怎能逃脫懲罰呢？「我憑我的永恆起誓，巴比倫王立他做王，他卻棄約背誓，他必死在巴比倫。敵人築起圍攻的土壘和高臺大肆殺戮的時候，法老雖然兵強馬壯，人多勢眾，仍無法幫他抗敵。他起誓降服，卻棄約背誓，所以絕不能逃避後果。因此，主耶和華說，『我憑我的永恆起誓，他既藐視與我所立的誓言，背棄與我所定的約，我必懲罰他。我要撒開網羅抓住他，把他帶到巴比倫，審判他對我不忠的罪。他所有的精兵都要喪身刀下，餘下的也要四散逃竄。這樣，你們就知道這是我耶和華說的。
