庶幾聽從、改其惡行、我欲降災、以罰其罪、止而不行。

庶幾彼眾聽從、各舍惡途、則我心回意轉、不降我因其惡行所欲降彼之災、

Perhaps they will listen and each will turn from their evil ways. Then I will relent and not inflict on them the disaster I was planning because of the evil they have done.

Perhaps they will listen. Maybe they will turn from their evil ways. Then I will not do what I said I would. I will not bring trouble on them. I had planned to punish them because of the evil things they had done.

It may be they will listen, and every one turn from his evil way, that I may relent of the disaster that I intend to do to them because of their evil deeds.

始我命邦國、必當翦滅、撥其根本、而彼邦國、悛改厥行、則我欲降之災、必不行焉。

當盥手潔心、滌爾污俗、棄惡歸善、公義是行、受人虐遇者、必加援手、孤子嫠婦、必伸其冤。

庶幾猶大人民、聞我降災、改厥惡行、望我赦宥。

如惡人悛改素行、孳孳為義、則可得生、因其思慮、悛改厥惡、則保其生、不就死地。以色列族常言、我耶和華所為、不尚正直、爾以色列族乎、我所行者、惟秉至公、爾所為者、不能無私。我耶和華必鞫以色列族、視人所為、降以刑罰、故當悛改、免陷於罪、以致滅亡。

亞哈聞言、則裂其衣、衣麻禁食、或寢或行、卑以自牧。

俱必衣麻、懇籲上帝、眾當去惡、勿虐人民、庶幾上帝或回厥志、而息其怒、使我不亡。於是眾民、咸去舊惡、上帝鑒察之、乃回厥志、災不果降。

爾觀亞哈卑以自牧、因此、亞哈尚存之日、我不降以禍災、迨及其子相繼、乃降災於其家。

禱耶和華曰、我在故土、逆料有此、故遁於大失、我知爾仁慈之上帝、矜憫為懷、恆忍不已、弗加災害、

耶和華震怒、言欲降災於斯民、庶幾斯民悛改惡行、求耶和華恩焉。
