我不遺餘力地料理葡萄園，希望得到好葡萄，為什麼得到的只是壞葡萄呢？

萬軍之耶和華的葡萄園就是以色列，祂所喜愛的葡萄樹就是猶大人。祂希望看到公平，卻只看見殺戮；指望看到公義，卻只聽見冤聲。

我真悲慘！就像夏天的果子已被收盡，葡萄已被摘淨，找不到一串可吃的，尋不見我心中渴望的初熟無花果。

可是，你們卻褻瀆我的名，竟然說我的桌子是污穢的，上面的祭物是可藐視的。你們不屑地說，『哼！這些事真麻煩！』這是萬軍之耶和華說的。你們把搶來的、瘸腿的、有病的獻給我，我豈能接納呢？這是耶和華說的。許願時說要獻上羊群中的公羊，後來卻拿傷殘的來獻給主，這種人該受咒詛！因為我是大君王，就是外族人也敬畏我的名。這是萬軍之耶和華說的。」

耶和華說：「昔日我看見以色列時，像在荒野看見葡萄；看見你們的祖先時，像在無花果樹上看見初熟的果子。但他們卻祭拜巴力·毗珥，把自己獻給可恥的偶像，變得像他們所愛的偶像一樣可憎。

「人子啊，葡萄木比林中其他木材更好嗎？葡萄木有什麼用呢？能用它製造掛鉤掛東西嗎？它只能用來當柴燒。如果火已經燒了它的兩頭，中間也燒黑了，它還有什麼用呢？它完好無損的時候，尚且不能用來製造工具，被火燒後豈不更沒用了嗎？

「你們是世上的鹽。如果鹽失去鹹味，怎能使它再變鹹呢？它將毫無用處，只有被丟在外面任人踐踏。

「以色列的上帝耶和華這樣說，『那些從這裡被擄到迦勒底的猶大人在我眼中是好無花果。我要眷顧他們，帶他們回到這裡。我要使他們興起，不再毀滅他們；我要栽培他們，不再剷除他們；我要賜給他們一顆心，使他們認識我是耶和華。他們要做我的子民，我要做他們的上帝，因為他們必全心全意地歸向我。』至於那些壞得不能吃的無花果，耶和華這樣說，『猶大王西底迦及其官員，以及留在耶路撒冷和埃及的人在我眼中就像壞得不能吃的無花果。我必丟棄他們，使他們的遭遇令天下萬國驚懼。在我流放他們去的地方，他們必受凌辱、嘲笑、譏諷和咒詛。我要使戰爭、饑荒和瘟疫臨到他們，直到他們在我賜給他們和他們祖先的土地上滅亡。』」

萬軍之耶和華這樣說，『看啊，我必使戰爭、饑荒和瘟疫臨到他們，使他們像爛得不能吃的無花果。
