『「必有許多國的人要經過這城，彼此對問說：『永恆主為甚麼這樣罰辦這個大城呢？』

多邦之人經是邑者、將相語曰、耶和華如是待此大邑、何故、

凡鄰國眾庶、經過是邑、互相告語、曰、耶和華罰此大邑、何為至於若斯。

諸國之人、經過是邑、彼此問曰、主何為待此大邑如此、

“ People from many nations will pass by this city and will ask one another,‘ Why has the Lord done such a thing to this great city?’

“ People from many nations will pass by this city. They will ask one another,‘ Why has the Lord done such a thing to this great city?’

“‘ And many nations will pass by this city, and every man will say to his neighbor,“ Why has the Lord dealt thus with this great city?”

“ People from many nations will pass by the ruins of this city and say to one another,‘ Why did the Lord destroy such a great city?’

“ Many nations will pass by this city; and they will say to one another,‘ Why has the Lord done this to this great city?’

And many nations will pass by this city; and everyone will say to his neighbor,‘ Why has the Lord done so to this great city?’

And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbor, Wherefore hath Jehovah done thus unto this great city?

“ Many nations will pass by this city and ask one another,‘ Why did the Lord do such a thing to this great city?’

And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this great city?

“‘ People from other nations will pass by this city. They will ask one another,“ Why has the LORD done such a thing to this great city?”

“ Many nations will pass by this city, and they will each ask his neighbor,‘ Why has Yahweh done this to this great city?’

Though this temple is now exalted, everyone who passes by will be appalled and will scoff. They will say,“ Why did the LORD do this to this land and this temple?”Then they will say,“ Because they abandoned the LORD their God who brought their ancestors out of the land of Egypt. They held on to other gods and bowed in worship to them and served them. Because of this, the LORD brought all this ruin on them.”

then I will uproot Israel from the soil that I gave them, and this temple that I have sanctified for my name I will banish from my presence; I will make it an object of scorn and ridicule among all the peoples.As for this temple, which was exalted, everyone who passes by will be appalled and will say,“ Why did the LORD do this to this land and this temple?”Then they will say,“ Because they abandoned the LORD God of their ancestors who brought them out of the land of Egypt. They clung to other gods and bowed in worship to them and served them. Because of this, he brought all this ruin on them.”

All its soil will be a burning waste of sulfur and salt, unsown, producing nothing, with no plant growing on it, just like the fall of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD demolished in his fierce anger.All the nations will ask,‘ Why has the LORD done this to this land? Why this intense outburst of anger?’Then people will answer,‘ It is because they abandoned the covenant of the LORD, the God of their ancestors, which he had made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.They began to serve other gods, bowing in worship to gods they had not known— gods that the LORD had not permitted them to worship.

All who pass by scornfully clap their hands at you. They hiss and shake their heads at Daughter Jerusalem: Is this the city that was called the perfection of beauty, the joy of the whole earth?All your enemies open their mouths against you. They hiss and gnash their teeth, saying,“ We have swallowed her up. This is the day we have waited for! We have lived to see it.”The LORD has done what he planned; he has accomplished his decree, which he ordained in days of old. He has demolished without compassion, letting the enemy gloat over you and exalting the horn of your adversaries.

Lord, righteousness belongs to you, but this day public shame belongs to us: the men of Judah, the residents of Jerusalem, and all Israel— those who are near and those who are far, in all the countries where you have banished them because of the disloyalty they have shown toward you.

“ When you tell these people all these things, they will say to you,‘ Why has the LORD declared all this terrible disaster against us? What is our iniquity? What is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?’

The kings of the earth and all the world’s inhabitants did not believe that an enemy or adversary could enter Jerusalem’s gates.
