To an image carved from a piece of wood they say,‘ You are my father.’ To an idol chiseled from a block of stone they say,‘ You are my mother.’ They turn their backs on me, but in times of trouble they cry out to me,‘ Come and save us!’

耶和华啊，他们在急难中寻求你。你的管教临到他们身上时，他们倾吐低声的祷告。

他们在床上呼号，却不诚心哀求我；他们为求五谷新酒而聚集，却背叛我。

他们以背向我，不以面向我；我虽然一再教导他们，他们却不听从，不领受训诲，

从那年起，他们欺压迫害以色列人，在约旦河东，亚摩利人境内，基列一带所有的以色列人，长达十八年。亚扪人渡过约旦河去攻打犹大和便雅悯，以及以法莲家族。以色列的处境非常困苦。以色列人哀求耶和华说：“我们得罪了你，因为我们离弃了我们的神，去事奉诸巴力。”耶和华对以色列人说：“我岂没有救你们脱离埃及人、亚摩利人、亚扪人和非利士人吗？西顿人、亚玛力人和马云人欺压你们，你们哀求我，我也拯救你们脱离他们的手。你们竟离弃我去事奉别神！所以我不再救你们了。你们去哀求你们所选择的神明；你们遭遇急难的时候，让它们救你们吧！”以色列人对耶和华说：“我们犯罪了，照你看为好的待我们，只求你今日拯救我们吧！”以色列人就除掉他们中间的外邦神明，事奉耶和华。耶和华因以色列所受的苦难而心里焦急。

制造偶像的人尽都虚空，他们所喜悦的全无益处；偶像的见证人毫无所见，毫无所知，以致他们羞愧。谁制造神像，铸造偶像？这些都是无益的。看哪，他的同伙都必羞愧。工匠不过是人，任他们聚集，任他们站立吧！他们都必惧怕，一同羞愧。铁匠用工具在火炭上工作，用锤打出形状，用他有力的膀臂来锤。他因饥饿而无力气；因未喝水而疲倦。木匠拉线，用笔划出样子，用刨子刨成形状，又用圆规划了模样。他仿照人的体态，做出美妙的人形，放在庙里。他砍伐香柏树，又取杉树和橡树，在树林中让它茁壮；或栽种松树，得雨水滋润长大。这树，人可用以生火；他拿一些来取暖，又搧火烤饼，而且做神像供跪拜，做雕刻的偶像向它叩拜。他将一半的木头烧在火中，用它烤肉来吃；吃饱了，就自己取暖说：“啊哈，我暖和了，我看到火了！”然后又用剩下的一半做了一个神明，就是雕刻的偶像，向这偶像俯伏叩拜，向它祷告说：“求你拯救我，因你是我的神明。”他们既无知，又不思想；因为耶和华蒙蔽他们的眼，使他们看不见，塞住他们的心，使他们不明白。没有一个心里醒悟，有知识，有聪明，能说：“我曾拿一部分用火燃烧，在炭火上烤饼，也烤肉来吃。这剩下的，我岂要做可憎之像吗？我岂可向木头叩拜呢？”他以灰尘为食，心里迷糊，以致偏邪，不能自救，也不能说：“我右手中岂不是有虚谎吗？”

在仇敌面前，我必如东风刮散他们，遭难的日子，我要以背向他们，不以脸看他们。”

他杀他们的时候，他们才求问他，回心转意，切切寻求神。他们追念神是他们的磐石，至高的神是他们的救赎主。他们却用口谄媚他，用舌向他说谎。他们的心向他不坚定，不忠于他的约。

他们的偶像是金的，是银的，是人手所造的，有口却不能言，有眼却不能看，有耳却不能听，有鼻却不能闻，有手却不能摸，有脚却不能走，有喉却不能说话。造它们的要像它们一样，凡靠它们的也必如此。

主耶和华如此说：“因你忘记我，将我丢在背后，所以你要担当你的淫行和淫荡。”

然后他领我到耶和华殿的内院。看哪，在耶和华殿门口、走廊和祭坛中间，约有二十五个人背向耶和华的殿，面向东方，向东拜太阳。

你这住黎巴嫩、在香柏树上搭窝的，有痛苦临到你，如疼痛临到临产的妇人，那时你何等可怜！

你是野驴，习惯旷野，欲心发动时就呼吸急促，发情时谁能使它转回呢？凡寻找它的必不费力，在它的季节必能寻见它。

他们如同畜牲，尽都愚昧。偶像的训诲算什么呢？偶像不过是木头，

他们从钱囊中倒出金子，用天平秤出银子，雇银匠造成神像，他们又俯伏，又叩拜。他们抬起神像，扛在肩上，安置在定处，使它站立，不离本位；人呼求它，它却不回答，也无法救人脱离灾难。你们当记得这事，立定心意。叛逆的人哪，要留心思想。

我要去，我要回到原处，等他们自觉有罪，寻求我的面；急难时他们必切切寻求我。

偶像有什么益处呢？制造者雕刻它，铸成偶像，作虚假的教师；制造者倚靠的是自己所做的哑巴偶像。祸哉！那对木头说“醒起”，对哑巴石头说“起来”的人！偶像岂能教导人呢？看哪，它以金银包裹，其中并无气息。
