You will winnow them and a wind will carry them away, a whirlwind will scatter them. But you will rejoice in the LORD; you will boast in the Holy One of Israel.

I will send strangers to Babylon who will scatter her and strip her land bare, for they will come against her from every side in the day of disaster.

“ You are to say to them: This is what the LORD says: Do people fall and not get up again? If they turn away, do they not return?Why have these people turned away? Why is Jerusalem always turning away? They take hold of deceit; they refuse to return.

Do not be like your ancestors; the earlier prophets proclaimed to them: This is what the LORD of Armies says: Turn from your evil ways and your evil deeds. But they did not listen or pay attention to me— this is the LORD’s declaration.

“ As for you, son of man, know that on that day I will take from them their stronghold— their pride and joy, the delight of their eyes, and the longing of their hearts— as well as their sons and daughters.

“ At that time it will be said to this people and to Jerusalem,‘ A searing wind blows from the barren heights in the wilderness on the way to my dear people. It comes not to winnow or to sift;a wind too strong for this comes at my call. Now I will also pronounce judgments against them.’”

I sent plagues like those of Egypt; I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses. I caused the stench of your camp to fill your nostrils, yet you did not return to me. This is the LORD’s declaration.I overthrew some of you as I overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a burning stick snatched from a fire, yet you did not return to me— This is the LORD’s declaration.Therefore, Israel, that is what I will do to you, and since I will do that to you, Israel, prepare to meet your God!

You will father sons and daughters, but they will not remain yours, because they will be taken prisoner.

Say to the house of Israel,‘ This is what the Lord GOD says: I am about to desecrate my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the delight of your eyes, and the desire of your heart. Also, the sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.

Your offspring will be cursed, and your land’s produce, the young of your herds, and the newborn of your flocks.

Your sons and daughters will be given to another people, while your eyes grow weary looking for them every day. But you will be powerless to do anything.
