But I said,“ Lord and King, the prophets keep telling them something else. They say,‘ You won’t have to suffer from war or hunger. Instead, the Lord will give you peace and rest in this place.’ ”

我就说：“唉！主耶和华啊，那些先知常对他们说：‘你们必不看见刀剑，也不遭遇饥荒；耶和华要在这地方赐你们长久的平安。’”

我就说：“唉！主耶和华，看哪，那些先知常对他们说：‘你们必不见刀剑，也不遭饥荒；耶和华要在这地方赏赐你们真正的平安。’”

我就说：“唉！主耶和华，看哪，那些先知常对他们说：‘你们必不见刀剑，也不遭饥荒；耶和华要在这地方赏赐你们真正的平安。’”

我说：“主耶和华啊！众先知不停地告诉他们不会有战争，也不会遭遇饥荒，说耶和华必在这地方赐给他们永久的平安。”

我就说：“唉，主耶和华啊！你看，那些先知常对他们说：‘你们必不会看见刀剑，也必不会有饥荒；因为我耶和华要在这地方赐给你们恒久的平安。’”

我就說：「唉！主耶和華啊，那些先知常對他們說：『你們必不看見刀劍，也不遭遇饑荒；耶和華要在這地方賜你們長久的平安。』」

我就說：「唉！主耶和華，看哪，那些先知常對他們說：『你們必不見刀劍，也不遭饑荒；耶和華要在這地方賞賜你們真正的平安。』」

我就說：「唉！主耶和華，看哪，那些先知常對他們說：『你們必不見刀劍，也不遭饑荒；耶和華要在這地方賞賜你們真正的平安。』」

我說：「主耶和華啊！眾先知不停地告訴他們不會有戰爭，也不會遭遇饑荒，說耶和華必在這地方賜給他們永久的平安。」

我就說：“唉，主耶和華啊！你看，那些先知常對他們說：‘你們必不會看見刀劍，也必不會有饑荒；因為我耶和華要在這地方賜給你們恆久的平安。’”

我就說：『唉，主永恆主啊，你看，那些神言人常對他們說：「你們必不會見刀劍，必不會遭遇饑荒；我永恆主卻要在這地方賜給你們可靠的平安。」』

我則曰、噫、主耶和華歟、諸先知語民曰、爾必不罹鋒刃、不遭饑饉、耶和華必於斯土、錫爾久安、

耶利米曰、主耶和華與、諸偽先知曾告斯民、必不飲刃、不受饑、安居斯土、永獲平康、出於耶和華所賜。

我耶利米曰、哀哉、主天主歟、眾先知曾告斯民曰、爾必不見鋒刃、不遭饑饉、主必使爾於斯地永享平康、

But I said,“ Alas, Sovereign Lord! The prophets keep telling them,‘ You will not see the sword or suffer famine. Indeed, I will give you lasting peace in this place.’”

Then I said:“ Ah, Lord God, behold, the prophets say to them,‘ You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’”

Then I said,“ O Sovereign Lord, their prophets are telling them,‘ All is well— no war or famine will come. The Lord will surely send you peace.’”

And I replied,“ Oh no, Lord GOD! The prophets are telling them,‘ You won’t see sword or suffer famine. I will certainly give you lasting peace in this place.’”

But I said,“ Oh, Lord God! Behold, the prophets are telling them,‘ You will not see a sword, nor will you have famine; on the contrary, I will give you lasting peace in this place.’ ”

Then I said,“ Ah, Lord God! Behold, the prophets say to them,‘ You shall not see the sword, nor shall you have famine, but I will give you assured peace in this place.’”

Then said I, Ah, Lord Jehovah! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.

And I replied,“ Oh no, Lord God! The prophets are telling them,‘ You won’t see sword or suffer famine. I will certainly give you true peace in this place.’”

Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.

Then I said,“ Oh, Lord GOD, look! The prophets are telling them that you said,‘ You will not experience war or suffer famine. I will give you lasting peace and prosperity in this land.’”

Then I said,“ Ah, Lord Yahweh! Behold, the prophets tell them,‘ You will not see the sword, neither will you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.’”

They bandage the wounds of my people as if they were not very deep.‘ Peace, peace,’ they say. But there isn’t any peace.

Then I said,“ You are my Lord and King. You have completely tricked the people of Judah and Jerusalem! You have told them,‘ You will have peace and rest.’ But swords are pointed at our throats!”

They keep speaking to those who hate me. They say,‘ The Lord says you will have peace.’ They speak to all those who do what their stubborn hearts want them to do. They tell them,‘ No harm will come to you.’

Your judges take money from people who want special favors. Your priests teach only if they get paid for it. Your prophets won’t tell fortunes unless they receive money. But you still look for the Lord’ s help. You say,“ The Lord is with us. No trouble will come on us.”

They bandage the wounds of my people as if they were not very deep.‘ Peace, peace,’ they say. But there isn’t any peace.

But there were also false prophets among the people. In the same way there will be false teachers among you. In secret they will bring in teachings that will destroy you. They will even turn against the Lord and Master who died to pay for their sins. So they will quickly destroy themselves.

They have told lies about the Lord. They said,“ He won’t do anything! No harm will come to us. We will never see war or be hungry.

I had not made godly people sad. But when you told them lies, you made them lose all hope. You advised sinful people not to turn from their evil ways. You did not want them to save their lives.

“ You are my Lord and King,” I said.“ I don’t know how to speak. I’m too young.”

The prophets prophesy lies. The priests rule by their own authority. And my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?”

“‘ “They lead my people away from me. They say,‘ Peace.’ But there isn’t any peace. They are like people who build a weak wall. They try to cover up the weakness by painting the wall white.Tell those who do this that their wall is going to fall. Heavy rains will come. I will send hailstones crashing down. Powerful winds will blow.The wall will fall down. Then people will ask them,‘ Now where is the paint you covered it with?’ ”“‘ So the Lord and King speaks. He says,“ When I am very angry, I will send a powerful wind. Hailstones and heavy rains will come. They will fall with great force.I will tear down the wall you prophets painted over. I will knock it down. The only thing left will be its foundation. When it falls, you will be destroyed along with it. Then you will know that I am the Lord.So I will pour out all my great anger on the wall. I will also send it against you prophets who painted it. I will say to you,‘ The wall is gone. You who painted it will be gone too.You prophets of Israel prophesied to Jerusalem. You saw visions of peace for its people. But there wasn’t any peace,’ announces the Lord and King.” ’

“ The Lord who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says,‘ I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, removed all the objects that belong to my house. He took them to Babylon. Before two years are over, I will bring them back to this place.I will also bring King Jehoiachin back. He is the son of Jehoiakim. And I will bring back all the others who were taken from Judah to Babylon,’ announces the Lord.‘ I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’ ”Then Jeremiah the prophet replied to the false prophet Hananiah. Jeremiah spoke to him in front of the priests and all the people. They were standing in the Lord’ s house.
