耶和華對耶利米說：“你要這樣對他說：‘耶和華這樣說：看哪！我所建立的，我必拆毀；我所栽種的，我必拔除。我必這樣對待全地。

‘這人民用嘴唇尊敬我，心卻遠離我；

他們成群來到你那裡，坐在你面前，像是我的子民一樣。其實他們聽了你的話，卻不去行；他們只是用口表示愛慕，他們的心卻是追隨不義之財。

牠又把以色列地的種子取去，栽種在肥沃的地土、水流的旁邊，好像栽種柳樹一樣；它生長起來，成了一棵矮小而蔓延的葡萄樹；樹上的枝子向著那鷹，樹根在牠以下。這樣，它就成了一棵葡萄樹，生出枝子，長出嫩芽。“‘另有一隻大鷹，翅膀大，羽毛多；這葡萄樹從它栽種的苗床上，把樹根向這鷹彎過去，又向這鷹長出枝子，好得牠的澆灌。其實，這樹早已栽種在肥沃的地土、水流的旁邊，可以長枝子、結果子，成為佳美的葡萄樹。’你要說：‘主耶和華這樣說：這葡萄樹怎能茂盛呢？鷹不是要拔出它的根來，啄光它的果子，使它和它長出的一切嫩葉都枯乾嗎？其實，要把它連根拔起，並不需要很多人或很大的氣力。看哪！葡萄樹被栽種了，但它能發旺嗎？東風吹襲它的時候，它不是必然枯乾嗎？它必在生長的苗床上枯乾。’”

耶穌對他們說：“以賽亞指著你們這班偽君子所說的預言是對的，經上記著：‘這人民用嘴唇尊敬我，心卻遠離我；

“‘你的母親像葡萄園裡（按照《馬索拉文本》，“葡萄園裡”作“在你血中”；現參照其他抄本和《七十士譯本》翻譯）的一棵葡萄樹，栽種在水邊；因為水源充足，結果纍纍、枝葉茂盛。它有粗壯的樹枝可作掌權者的杖；它樹身高大，超乎其他茂密枝葉之上；因為它樹身高大，枝子眾多，遠遠就可以看見。但這葡萄樹因神的烈怒被拔起，摔在地上；東風使它的果子枯乾散掉，粗壯的樹枝枯槁，被火吞滅。現在它被栽種在曠野，在乾旱無水之地。

雖然這樣，她詭詐的妹妹猶大還沒有全心歸向我，只是假意地歸我。”這是耶和華的宣告。
