牠又把以色列的樹苗像柳樹一樣栽在水源豐沛的沃土裡。樹苗很快發了芽，成了向四面蔓延的矮小葡萄樹，根深葉茂，枝子向著鷹伸展開去。「『又有一隻大鷹飛來，翅膀寬大，羽毛豐滿。這葡萄樹把根和枝子轉向這隻鷹，渴望得到牠的澆灌。但這樹已栽在水源豐沛的沃土裡，可以長得枝繁葉茂，成為結實纍纍的好葡萄樹。』「你要告訴他們，主耶和華這樣說，『這樹能長得枝繁葉茂嗎？難道那鷹不把它連根拔起，摘掉它的果子，使樹和嫩葉全部枯萎嗎？不必費多大力氣，也不需要多少人就可以把它連根拔起。這樹雖然被栽種了，又豈能長得茂盛呢？東風一吹，它豈不完全枯萎在園圃中了嗎？』」

耶穌回答說：「以賽亞先知針對你們這些偽君子所說的預言一點不錯，正如聖經上說，『這些人嘴上尊崇我，心卻遠離我。

「『你母親像葡萄園中的一棵葡萄樹，栽在溪水旁，枝繁葉茂，碩果纍纍，因為水源充沛。它的枝子粗壯，可作王的杖。它的樹幹高大，直插雲霄，枝葉茂密，遠遠可見。但它被憤怒地連根拔起，拋在地上。東風吹乾了它的果實，粗壯的枝幹折斷枯乾，被火焚燒。現在，它被栽種在乾旱的曠野。

儘管如此，她不忠的妹妹猶大只是假裝歸向我，並不誠心。這是耶和華說的。」
