Righteous are you, O Lord, when I complain to you; yet I would plead my case before you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive?

永恆主啊，我和你辯訴時，你都是對的；但有一個案件、我還要跟你理論。惡人的路為甚麼順利亨通？大行詭詐的為甚麼安享興隆呢？

耶和華歟、我與爾辯、爾乃公義、然我猶欲與爾論之、惡人之道、何故亨通、行詐之流、奚為安泰、

耶利米曰、耶和華與、吾訴於爾前、爾惟公是秉。即以爾行事論之、作惡者享通、逆理者平康、誠何故哉。

我若與主爭辯、主必顯為至公、雖然、我猶敢與主理論、惡人之道途亨通、奸詐之人平康、何故哉、

You are always righteous, Lord, when I bring a case before you. Yet I would speak with you about your justice: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease?

Lord, when I bring a matter to you, you always do what is right. But now I would like to speak with you about whether you are being fair. Why are sinful people successful? Why do those who can’t be trusted have an easy life?

Lord, you always give me justice when I bring a case before you. So let me bring you this complaint: Why are the wicked so prosperous? Why are evil people so happy?

You will be righteous, LORD, even if I bring a case against you. Yet, I wish to contend with you: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the treacherous live at ease?

Righteous are You, Lord, when I plead my case with You; Nevertheless I would discuss matters of justice with You: Why has the way of the wicked prospered? Why are all those who deal in treachery at ease?

Righteous are You, O Lord, when I plead with You; Yet let me talk with You about Your judgments. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are those happy who deal so treacherously?

Righteous art thou, O Jehovah, when I contend with thee; yet would I reason the cause with thee: wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper? wherefore are all they at ease that deal very treacherously?

You will be righteous, Lord, even if I bring a case against You. Yet, I wish to contend with You: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the treacherous live at ease?

Righteous[ art] thou, O LORD, when I plead with thee: yet let me talk with thee of[ thy] judgments: Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper?[ wherefore] are all they happy that deal very treacherously?

LORD, you have always been fair whenever I have complained to you. However, I would like to speak with you about the disposition of justice. Why are wicked people successful? Why do all dishonest people have such easy lives?

You are righteous, Yahweh, when I contend with you; yet I would like to reason the cause with you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are they all at ease who deal very treacherously?

And now we call the arrogant blessed. Evildoers not only prosper but they put God to the test and they escape.’”

Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers!

that though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they are doomed to destruction forever;

The tents of robbers are at peace, and those who provoke God are secure, who bring their god in their hand.

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.

I have seen a wicked, ruthless man, spreading himself like a green laurel tree.

So the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; so justice goes forth perverted.

But, O Lord of hosts, who judges righteously, who tests the heart and the mind, let me see your vengeance upon them, for to you have I committed my cause.

The Lord within her is righteous; he does no injustice; every morning he shows forth his justice; each dawn he does not fail; but the unjust knows no shame.

You who are of purer eyes than to see evil and cannot look at wrong, why do you idly look at traitors and remain silent when the wicked swallows up the man more righteous than he?You make mankind like the fish of the sea, like crawling things that have no ruler.He brings all of them up with a hook; he drags them out with his net; he gathers them in his dragnet; so he rejoices and is glad.Therefore he sacrifices to his net and makes offerings to his dragnet; for by them he lives in luxury, and his food is rich.Is he then to keep on emptying his net and mercilessly killing nations forever?

To you, O Lord, belongs righteousness, but to us open shame, as at this day, to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to all Israel, those who are near and those who are far away, in all the lands to which you have driven them, because of the treachery that they have committed against you.

For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have been utterly treacherous to me, declares the Lord.

Like a cage full of birds, their houses are full of deceit; therefore they have become great and rich;they have grown fat and sleek. They know no bounds in deeds of evil; they judge not with justice the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper, and they do not defend the rights of the needy.

O Lord, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked exult?They pour out their arrogant words; all the evildoers boast.

For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.For they have no pangs until death; their bodies are fat and sleek.They are not in trouble as others are; they are not stricken like the rest of mankind.Therefore pride is their necklace; violence covers them as a garment.Their eyes swell out through fatness; their hearts overflow with follies.They scoff and speak with malice; loftily they threaten oppression.They set their mouths against the heavens, and their tongue struts through the earth.Therefore his people turn back to them, and find no fault in them.And they say,“ How can God know? Is there knowledge in the Most High?”Behold, these are the wicked; always at ease, they increase in riches.All in vain have I kept my heart clean and washed my hands in innocence.For all the day long I have been stricken and rebuked every morning.If I had said,“ I will speak thus,” I would have betrayed the generation of your children.But when I thought how to understand this, it seemed to me a wearisome task,until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I discerned their end.Truly you set them in slippery places; you make them fall to ruin.How they are destroyed in a moment, swept away utterly by terrors!Like a dream when one awakes, O Lord, when you rouse yourself, you despise them as phantoms.When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart,I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you.Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand.You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.For behold, those who are far from you shall perish; you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you.But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.

O Lord, the God of Israel, you are just, for we are left a remnant that has escaped, as it is today. Behold, we are before you in our guilt, for none can stand before you because of this.”

Why do the wicked live, reach old age, and grow mighty in power?Their offspring are established in their presence, and their descendants before their eyes.Their houses are safe from fear, and no rod of God is upon them.Their bull breeds without fail; their cow calves and does not miscarry.They send out their little boys like a flock, and their children dance.They sing to the tambourine and the lyre and rejoice to the sound of the pipe.They spend their days in prosperity, and in peace they go down to Sheol.They say to God,‘ Depart from us! We do not desire the knowledge of your ways.What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit do we get if we pray to him?’

But I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to argue my case with God.

[ Tsadhe] Righteous are you, O Lord, and right are your rules.

You have never heard, you have never known, from of old your ear has not been opened. For I knew that you would surely deal treacherously, and that from before birth you were called a rebel.

The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works.

But like Adam they transgressed the covenant; there they dealt faithlessly with me.

Set forth your case, says the Lord; bring your proofs, says the King of Jacob.

But if our unrighteousness serves to show the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unrighteous to inflict wrath on us?( I speak in a human way.)By no means! For then how could God judge the world?

Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?”

“ The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.

For even your brothers and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously with you; they are in full cry after you; do not believe them, though they speak friendly words to you.”

I know, O Lord, that your rules are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.

For the simple are killed by their turning away, and the complacency of fools destroys them;
