永恆主這麼說：『你去買個窰匠的瓦瓶，帶着民間的長老，和祭司中的長老，出去到欣嫩子平谷哈珥西門口那裏，在那裏宣告我所告訴你的話。你要說：「猶大列王、和耶路撒冷的居民哪，你們要聽永恆主的話。萬軍之永恆主以色列之上帝這麼說：看吧，我必使災禍臨到這地方，就是凡聽見的人耳朵都會顫動的。因為人民都離棄了我，使這地方變成了外邦，在這裏燻祭給別的神，就是他們和他們列祖跟猶大列王所不認識的；他們又使這地方充滿了無辜人的血；築了巴力的邱壇，去在火中焚燒自己的兒女，做燻祭獻給巴力：這不是我所吩咐的，不是我所提說的，也不是我心裏所想起的啊。因此你看吧，日子必到，永恆主發神諭說，這地方必不再稱為陀斐特和欣嫩子平谷，乃要稱為殺戮平谷。我必在這地方使猶大和耶路撒冷的計謀落空，也必使他們在仇敵面前倒斃於刀下，落於尋索他們性命的人手中。我必將他們的屍體給空中的飛鳥和地上的野獸做食物。我必使這城成了令人驚駭、令人嗤笑的地方，凡經過這裏的、都必因這城所受的一切擊傷而驚駭、而嗤笑。在他們被圍困被窘迫之中、就是當仇敵和尋索他們性命的人窘迫他們之時、我必使他們喫自己兒女的肉，各人喫朋友的肉。」『你要將那瓦瓶摔破，讓跟你同去的人親眼看見，對他們說：「萬軍之永恆主這麼說：我必照樣破毁這人民和這城，正如人摔破窰匠的瓦器一樣，是不能再補好的。人必在陀斐特埋葬死人，因為別處沒有地方埋葬。

因為你們自己明確地曉得主的日子就像個賊夜裏來到一樣。

半夜裏有嚷叫的聲音說：「看哪，新郎來了！出來迎接他哦！」

於是基甸將三百人分作三隊，把號角和空瓶交在各人手裏，瓶中有火把。

你必用鐵杖打破他們；你必摔碎他們、如窰匠的瓦器。」』

晨更時候，永恆主在火柱雲柱中往下眺望埃及人的營，就使埃及人的營潰亂了。
