Gideon said to God,“ If you really intend to use me to deliver Israel, as you promised, then give me a sign as proof.

基甸對上帝說：「若如你所言，你要用我去拯救以色列人，

基甸對神說：“如果你按著你所說的，要藉著我的手拯救以色列人；

基甸對上帝說：『你如果照你所說的要藉着我的手來拯救以色列，

基甸謂上帝曰、如爾果循所言、假我手而拯以色列人、

其田求上帝曰、爾嘗有言、必假手於我、援以色列族。

基甸禱天主曰、主若果藉我手拯以色列人、循主所許、

Gideon said to God,“ If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised—

Gideon said to God,“ You promised you would use me to save Israel.

Then Gideon said to God,“ If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said,

Then Gideon said to God,“ If you are truly going to use me to rescue Israel as you promised,

Then Gideon said to God,“ If you will deliver Israel by me, as you said,

Then Gideon said to God,“ If You are going to save Israel through me, as You have spoken,

So Gideon said to God,“ If You will save Israel by my hand as You have said—

And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by my hand, as thou hast spoken,

Then Gideon said to God,“ If You will deliver Israel by my hand, as You said,

And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,

Gideon said to God,“ If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken,

Then the LORD himself turned to him and said,“ You have the strength. Deliver Israel from the power of the Midianites! Have I not sent you?”

As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on his faithful followers.For he knows what we are made of; he realizes we are made of clay.

Moses answered again,“ And if they do not believe me or pay attention to me, but say,‘ The LORD has not appeared to you’?”The LORD said to him,“ What is that in your hand?” He said,“ A staff.”The LORD said,“ Throw it to the ground.” So he threw it to the ground, and it became a snake, and Moses ran from it.But the LORD said to Moses,“ Put out your hand and grab it by the tail”– so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand–“ that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”The LORD also said to him,“ Put your hand into your robe.” So he put his hand into his robe, and when he brought it out– there was his hand, leprous like snow!He said,“ Put your hand back into your robe.” So he put his hand back into his robe, and when he brought it out from his robe– there it was, restored like the rest of his skin!“ If they do not believe you or pay attention to the former sign, then they may believe the latter sign.And if they do not believe even these two signs or listen to you, then take some water from the Nile and pour it out on the dry ground. The water you take out of the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.”

Isaiah replied,“ This is your sign from the LORD confirming that the LORD will do what he has said. Do you want the shadow to move ahead ten steps or to go back ten steps?”

Now when the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, they asked him to show them a sign from heaven.

Gideon said to him,“ If you really are pleased with me, then give me a sign as proof that it is really you speaking with me.Do not leave this place until I come back with a gift and present it to you.” The LORD said,“ I will stay here until you come back.”Gideon went and prepared a young goat, along with unleavened bread made from an ephah of flour. He put the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot. He brought the food to him under the oak tree and presented it to him.God’s messenger said to him,“ Put the meat and unleavened bread on this rock, and pour out the broth.” Gideon did as instructed.
