So they were divided by lot, the one as the other; for they were officers of the sanctuary and officers of God, both from the descendants of Eleazar and the descendants of Ithamar.
And each man said to his mate,“ Come, let’s cast lots so that we may find out on whose account this catastrophe has struck us.” So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.
Therefore, Saul said to the Lord, the God of Israel,“ Give a perfect lot.” And Jonathan and Saul were selected by lot, but the people were exonerated.Then Saul said,“ Cast lots between me and my son Jonathan.” And Jonathan was selected by lot.
Now the leaders of the people lived in Jerusalem, but the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, while nine tenths remained in the other cities.
