Then all Israel from Dan to Beersheba and from the land of Gilead came together as one and assembled before the Lord in Mizpah.

Then all the Israelites came out. They came from the whole land between Dan and Beersheba. They also came from the land of Gilead. All of them gathered together in front of the Lord at Mizpah.

Then all the people of Israel came out, from Dan to Beersheba, including the land of Gilead, and the congregation assembled as one man to the Lord at Mizpah.

王就對約押和跟隨他的軍官說：“你們走遍以色列各支派，從但到別是巴，數點人民，我好知道人民的數目。”

到了七月，以色列人都住在自己的城裡。（《馬索拉文本》以本句為7:73下半節）那時眾民如同一人，在水門前的廣場聚集，請經學家以斯拉把耶和華藉摩西命令以色列人遵守的律法書帶來。

撒母耳又說：“你們要把以色列眾人都聚集在米斯巴，我好為你們向耶和華禱告。”於是，他們聚集在米斯巴，打了水，澆奠在耶和華面前；當日他們禁食，並且在那裡說：“我們得罪了耶和華。”撒母耳就在米斯巴治理以色列人。

於是下了命令，通告全以色列，從別是巴直到但，叫人民來耶路撒冷守逾越節記念耶和華以色列的神，因為照著所記的定例舉行這節的人不多。

瑪拿西是約瑟的長子，他的支派抽籤所得的地業記在下面；至於瑪拿西的長子，基列的父親瑪吉，因為是個戰士，所以得到基列和巴珊。

並且立了他作王，統治基列、亞書利、耶斯列、以法蓮、便雅憫和以色列眾人。

以色列眾人，就是全體人民，又上到伯特利，坐在耶和華面前哀哭，那日禁食直到晚上，然後在耶和華面前獻上燔祭和平安祭。

這樣，大衛挽回了猶大眾人的心，好像一人的心。於是他們差派人去見王，說：“請你和你的眾臣僕都回來！”

按著他們的祖宗，以色列所生的兒子但的名字，給那城起名叫但；其實那城原先的名字叫拉億。

到了七月，各城裡的以色列人，如同一人，都在耶路撒冷聚集。

以色列人就起來，上伯特利去求問神，說：“我們之中誰應首先上去，與便雅憫人交戰呢？”耶和華說：“猶大應首先上去。”

當時亞捫人聚集起來，在基列安營；以色列人也聚集，在米斯巴安營。

於是大衛對約押和民眾的領袖說：“你們去數點以色列人，從別是巴直到但，然後回來見我，讓我知道他們的數目。”

於是以色列眾人彼此聯合，如同一人，聚集起來攻擊那城。

眾將領和他們的士兵，聽見巴比倫王委派了基大利，他們就來到米斯巴去見基大利；其中有尼探雅的兒子以實瑪利、加利亞的兒子約哈難、尼陀法人單戶篾的兒子西萊雅、瑪迦人的兒子雅撒尼亞，以及他們的士兵。

於是眾人都起來如同一人，說：“我們當中誰都不回自己的帳棚，誰都不回自己的家。

全民的領袖，就是以色列眾支派的領袖，都站在神子民的會中；拿刀的步兵共有四十萬人。

流本子孫和迦得子孫的牲畜極其眾多；他們看見雅謝地和基列地都是可牧放牲畜的地方，

他牽來一對牛，把牠們切成碎塊，交給使者，送到以色列的全境去，說：“不出來跟從掃羅和撒母耳的，他的牛也必受到這樣的對待。”因眾民懼怕耶和華，他們就都出來，如同一人。掃羅在比色數點他們。以色列人共有三十萬，猶大人有三萬。

“在耶和華你的神賜給你居住的一座城中，如果你聽說有些匪徒從你中間出來，把本城的居民引離，說：‘我們去事奉別的神吧。’那些神是你們素來不認識的；你就要調查、研究，仔細訪問，如果的確有這可厭惡的事行在你們中間，你就要用刀劍把那城裡的居民殺掉，把那城和城裡的一切，以及牲畜，都用刀劍完全毀滅。並且把從城裡掠奪的一切戰利品，都要收集在那城的廣場上，用火把城和在城裡掠奪的一切戰利品焚燒，獻給耶和華你的神；那城就要永遠成為廢墟，不可再建造。那當毀滅的物，一點也不可留在你手中，好使耶和華轉意不發烈怒，反而向你施恩，憐憫你，照著他向你的列祖所起的誓，使你的人數增多；只要你聽從耶和華你的神的話，遵守我今日吩咐你的一切誡命，實行耶和華你的神看為正的事，就必這樣。”
