I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her.”

Yahweh’s angel found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain on the way to Shur.He said,“ Hagar, Sarai’s servant, where did you come from? Where are you going?” She said,“ I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.”Yahweh’s angel said to her,“ Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands.”Yahweh’s angel said to her,“ I will greatly multiply your offspring, that they will not be counted for multitude.”Yahweh’s angel said to her,“ Behold, you are with child, and will bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because Yahweh has heard your affliction.He will be like a wild donkey among men. His hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. He will live opposed to all of his brothers.”She called the name of Yahweh who spoke to her,“ You are a God who sees,” for she said,“ Have I even stayed alive after seeing him?”

Having come in, the angel said to her,“ Rejoice, you highly favored one! The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women!”But when she saw him, she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered what kind of salutation this might be.The angel said to her,“ Don’t be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.Behold, you will conceive in your womb, and give birth to a son, and will call his name‘ Jesus.’He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father, David,and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever. There will be no end to his Kingdom.”Mary said to the angel,“ How can this be, seeing I am a virgin?”The angel answered her,“ The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore also the holy one who is born from you will be called the Son of God.Behold, Elizabeth, your relative, also has conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren.For nothing spoken by God is impossible.”Mary said,“ Behold, the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.” The angel departed from her.
