The descendants of Moses’ father-in-law, the Kenite, went up from the City of Palms with the people of Judah to live among the inhabitants of the Desert of Judah in the Negev near Arad.

Moses’ father- in- law was a Kenite. His family went up from Jericho. Jericho was also known as the City of Palm Trees. His family went up with the people of Judah to the Desert of Judah. They went there to live among its people. Those people were living in the Negev Desert near Arad.

And the descendants of the Kenite, Moses’ father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near Arad, and they went and settled with the people.

Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, even from the children of Hobab the brother- in- law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak in Zaanannim, which is by Kedesh.

And the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who dwelt in the South, heard tell that Israel came by the way of Atharim; and he fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.

And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for ye showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

At that time did king Ahaz send unto the kings of Assyria to help him.

And Moses went out to meet his father- in- law, and did obeisance, and kissed him: and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent.

And he looked on the Kenite, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwelling- place, And thy nest is set in the rock.Nevertheless Kain shall be wasted, Until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.

And Moses let his father- in- law depart; and he went his way into his own land.

And Jethro, Moses’ father- in- law, took a burnt- offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses’ father- in- law before God.

And when Moses’ father- in- law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand about thee from morning unto even?And Moses said unto his father- in- law, Because the people come unto me to inquire of God:when they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between a man and his neighbor, and I make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.And Moses’ father- in- law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.
