Come now, ye that say, To- day or to- morrow we will go into this city, and spend a year there, and trade, and get gain:

不要為明日而誇張自己，因為一日要發生甚麼事、你尚且不知道呢。

就自己心裏議論說：「我沒有地方收集我的果實、要怎麼辦呢？」就說：「我要這麼辦：我要把我的倉房拆下來，建造更大的。我要收集我一切的五穀和財物在那裏；然後對自己說，人哪，你有許多財物存放着、做許多年的用處；你安逸度日，喫喝快樂吧！」但上帝卻對他說：「糊塗人哪，就在今天夜裏，你的財物就要要你的命了！你所豫備的、要歸誰呢？」

他們彼此商量說：『來吧！我們作磚，給燒透了。』他們就拿磚當石頭，又拿石漆當灰泥。便說：『來吧，我們建造一座城和一座塔；塔頂通天，我們須要為自己立名，免得分散在全地上。』

那時人民怎樣，祭司也必怎樣；僕人怎樣，主人也必怎樣；婢女怎樣，主母也必怎樣；買物的怎樣，賣物的也必怎樣；借給人的怎樣，向人借的也必怎樣；放債的怎樣，借債的也必怎樣。

我心裏說：『來！我要以喜樂試試你，你只管享樂。』唉，這也是虛空。

來，如今請注意！富足的人哪，應當因你們的慘難、那將要臨到的慘難、來哭泣號咷。

哭泣的要像不哭泣；喜樂的要像不喜樂；置買的要像沒擁有甚麼；

來，我們下去，就在那裏使他們的口音混亂，不曉得聽彼此的口音。』

如今我告訴你們我要怎樣處理我的葡萄園。我要把它的籬笆撤去，使它被吞喫；我要把它的圍牆拆個破口，使它被踐踏。

時候到了，日子近了。買的人不必歡喜，賣的人也不必憂愁，因為永恆主的烈怒已臨到所有的蜂擁羣眾。

這些狗的食慾極強，不知飽足；嘿，這種人竟是牧人！不知聰明為何物！他們都偏向自行的路，各從各方專求自己的利益。他們說：『來！我去拿酒；我們來痛飲濃酒！明天也必像今天一樣，盛大豐盈之極。』
