He has sent me to announce the year when he will set his people free. He wants me to announce the day when he will pay his enemies back. Our God has sent me to comfort all those who are sad.

“ Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

For the LORD has planned a day of revenge, a time when he will repay Edom for her hostility toward Zion.

I have seen their behavior, but I will heal them and give them rest, and I will once again console those who mourn.

The LORD says,“ At that time young women will dance and be glad. Young men and old men will rejoice. I will turn their grief into gladness. I will give them comfort and joy in place of their sorrow.

( 3: 19)“ For indeed the day is coming, burning like a furnace, and all the arrogant evildoers will be chaff. The coming day will burn them up,” says the LORD who rules over all.“ It will not leave even a root or branch.But for you who respect my name, the sun of vindication will rise with healing wings, and you will skip about like calves released from the stall.You will trample on the wicked, for they will be like ashes under the soles of your feet on the day which I am preparing,” says the LORD who rules over all.

You must sound loud horn blasts– in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, on the Day of Atonement– you must sound the horn in your entire land.So you must consecrate the fiftieth year, and you must proclaim a release in the land for all its inhabitants. That year will be your jubilee; each one of you must return to his property and each one of you must return to his clan.That fiftieth year will be your jubilee; you must not sow the land, harvest its aftergrowth, or pick the grapes of its unpruned vines.Because that year is a jubilee, it will be holy to you– you may eat its produce from the field.“‘ In this year of jubilee you must each return to your property.

Then, turning toward the woman, he said to Simon,“ Do you see this woman? I entered your house. You gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.You gave me no kiss of greeting, but from the time I entered she has not stopped kissing my feet.You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with perfumed oil.Therefore I tell you, her sins, which were many, are forgiven, thus she loved much; but the one who is forgiven little loves little.”Then Jesus said to her,“ Your sins are forgiven.”But those who were at the table with him began to say among themselves,“ Who is this, who even forgives sins?”He said to the woman,“ Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

He wears his desire for justice like body armor, and his desire to deliver is like a helmet on his head. He puts on the garments of vengeance and wears zeal like a robe.He repays them for what they have done, dispensing angry judgment to his adversaries and punishing his enemies. He repays the coastlands.

because they hinder us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved. Thus they constantly fill up their measure of sins, but wrath has come upon them completely.

I tell you the solemn truth, you will weep and wail, but the world will rejoice; you will be sad, but your sadness will turn into joy.When a woman gives birth, she has distress because her time has come, but when her child is born, she no longer remembers the suffering because of her joy that a human being has been born into the world.So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

For he says,“ I heard you at the acceptable time, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” Look, now is the acceptable time; look, now is the day of salvation!

and to you who are being afflicted to give rest together with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels.With flaming fire he will mete out punishment on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.They will undergo the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his strength,

Who is this who comes from Edom, dressed in bright red, coming from Bozrah? Who is this one wearing royal attire, who marches confidently because of his great strength?“ It is I, the one who announces vindication, and who is able to deliver!”Why are your clothes red? Why do you look like someone who has stomped on grapes in a vat?“ I have stomped grapes in the winepress all by myself; no one from the nations joined me. I stomped on them in my anger; I trampled them down in my rage. Their juice splashed on my garments, and stained all my clothes.For I looked forward to the day of vengeance, and then payback time arrived.I looked, but there was no one to help; I was shocked because there was no one offering support. So my right arm accomplished deliverance; my raging anger drove me on.I trampled nations in my anger, I made them drunk in my rage, I splashed their blood on the ground.”

This is what the LORD says:“ At the time I decide to show my favor, I will respond to you; in the day of deliverance I will help you; I will protect you and make you a covenant mediator for people, to rebuild the land and to reassign the desolate property.

But that day belongs to the Lord God who rules over all. It is the day when he will pay back his enemies. His sword will devour them until its appetite is satisfied! It will drink their blood until it is full! For the Lord GOD who rules over all will offer them up as a sacrifice in the land of the north by the Euphrates River.

“ Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied.“ Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope,encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good thing you do or say.

who comforts us in all our troubles so that we may be able to comfort those experiencing any trouble with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow toward us, so also our comfort through Christ overflows to you.

because these are days of vengeance, to fulfill all that is written.Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing their babies in those days! For there will be great distress on the earth and wrath against this people.They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led away as captives among all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

When you see this, you will be happy, and you will be revived. The LORD will reveal his power to his servants and his anger to his enemies.

he will swallow up death permanently. The sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from every face, and remove his people’s disgrace from all the earth. Indeed, the LORD has announced it!

Be happy for Jerusalem and rejoice with her, all you who love her! Share in her great joy, all you who have mourned over her!For you will nurse from her satisfying breasts and be nourished; you will feed with joy from her milk-filled breasts.For this is what the LORD says:“ Look, I am ready to extend to her prosperity that will flow like a river, the riches of nations will flow into her like a stream that floods its banks. You will nurse from her breast and be carried at her side; you will play on her knees.

Tell those who panic,“ Be strong! Do not fear! Look, your God comes to avenge! With divine retribution he comes to deliver you.”

O sovereign LORD, at your right hand he strikes down kings in the day he unleashes his anger.He executes judgment against the nations; he fills the valleys with corpses; he shatters their heads over the vast battlefield.
