因為這人民的心思遲鈍，用不靈的耳朵去聽，又閉上了眼睛；免得自己眼睛看見，耳朵聽見，心裡明白，回轉過來，我就醫好他們。’

“愚昧無知的民哪！你們有眼不能看，有耳不能聽；你們應當聽這話：

我可以向誰說話，向誰警告，使他們可以聽從呢？他們的耳朵未受割禮，不能聽聞；看哪！他們以耶和華的話為羞辱，一點也不喜歡。

光來到世上，世人因為自己的行為邪惡，不愛光倒愛黑暗，定他們罪的原因，就在這裡。凡作惡的都恨光，不來接近光，免得他的惡行暴露出來。

但他們不肯聽從，反而硬著頸項，充耳不聞（“反而硬著頸項，充耳不聞”直譯是“轉着固執的肩膊，使自己的耳朵發沉不聽”）。

但耶書崙肥胖了，就踢跳，‘你肥胖了，你粗壯了，你飽滿了，’他離棄了造他的神，輕看了救他的磐石。

他們閉塞了憐憫的心（“憐憫的心”原文作“他們的脂油”），口裡說出驕傲的話。

因為耶和華把沉睡的靈，傾倒在你們身上；他緊閉你們的眼，就是先知；蒙蓋你們的頭，就是先見。

耶和華啊！你為甚麼使我們走錯，離開你的道路？使我們的心剛硬，不敬畏你呢？求你為你眾僕人的緣故，為你產業的各支派的緣故，回心轉意吧！

但是希實本王西宏不肯讓我們從他那裡經過，因為耶和華我們的神使他的心意頑固，使他的心剛硬，為要把他交在你的手裡，像今日一樣。

不是到說話難明、言語難懂的眾多民族那裡去，他們的話是你聽不懂的。但是，如果我差派你到他們那裡去，他們必聽從你。以色列家卻不肯聽從你，因為他們不肯聽從我，整個以色列家都是額堅心硬的。看哪！我要使你的臉像他們的臉一樣堅硬，使你的前額像他們的前額一樣堅硬。我要使你的額好像最堅硬的寶石，比火石更硬。他們雖然是叛逆的民族，你卻不要怕他們，在他們面前，也不要驚惶。”他又對我說：“人子啊！我對你說的一切話，你都要留心聽，記在心裡。你去，到被擄的人民那裡，向他們宣講；他們或聽或不聽，你只要對他們說：‘主耶和華這樣說。’”

他們的心麻木如同脂油，我卻喜歡你的律法。

看哪，我要使埃及人的心剛硬，他們就必跟著以色列人下去；這樣，我必在法老和他的全軍身上，以及他的馬車和馬兵身上得到榮耀。

摩西和亞倫在法老面前行了這一切神蹟；但耶和華使法老的心剛硬，所以他不肯讓以色列人離開他的地。

耶和華必擊打埃及，既擊打、又醫治，他們就回轉歸向耶和華，他必應允他們的禱告，醫治他們。

我要使法老心硬，我也要在埃及地加增我的神蹟奇事。

但耶和華使法老心裡剛硬，因此他不願意讓他們離開。

對於滅亡的人，這是死亡的氣味叫人死；對於得救的人，這卻是生命的香氣使人活。這些事誰夠資格作呢？

所以你們應當悔改歸正，使你們的罪得著塗抹。
