All of us have become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like a polluted garment; all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities carry us away like the wind.

The people are incapable of doing right— this is the Lord’s declaration— those who store up violence and destruction in their citadels.

Likewise, David also speaks of the blessing of the man God credits righteousness to apart from works:How joyful are those whose lawless acts are forgiven and whose sins are covered!How joyful is the man the Lord will never charge with sin!

How long, Lord, must I call for help and You do not listen or cry out to You about violence and You do not save?Why do You force me to look at injustice? Why do You tolerate wrongdoing? Oppression and violence are right in front of me. Strife is ongoing, and conflict escalates.This is why the law is ineffective and justice never emerges. For the wicked restrict the righteous; therefore, justice comes out perverted.

You dismiss any thought of the evil day and bring in a reign of violence.

Because you say,‘ I’m rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,’ and you don’t know that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked,I advise you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire so that you may be rich, white clothes so that you may be dressed and your shameful nakedness not be exposed, and ointment to spread on your eyes so that you may see.

For the wealthy of the city are full of violence, and its residents speak lies; the tongues in their mouths are deceitful.

At morning light they accomplish it because the power is in their hands.They covet fields and seize them; they also take houses. They deprive a man of his home, a person of his inheritance.Therefore, the Lord says: I am now planning a disaster against this nation; you cannot free your necks from it. Then you will not walk so proudly because it will be an evil time.

On that day I will punish all who skip over the threshold, who fill their master’s house with violence and deceit.

No, you practice injustice in your hearts; with your hands you weigh out violence in the land.

The princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are wolves of the night, which leave nothing for the morning.Her prophets are reckless— treacherous men. Her priests profane the sanctuary; they do violence to instruction.
