“ Come,” each one cries,“ let me get wine! Let us drink our fill of beer! And tomorrow will be like today, or even far better.”

“ Come!” they shout.“ Let’s get some wine! Let’s drink all the beer we can! Tomorrow we’ll do the same thing. And that will be even better than today.”

You put off the day of disaster and bring near a reign of terror.You lie on beds adorned with ivory and lounge on your couches. You dine on choice lambs and fattened calves.You strum away on your harps like David and improvise on musical instruments.You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest lotions, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph. Woe to those who rise early in the morning to run after their drinks, who stay up late at night till they are inflamed with wine. (niv)

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. (niv)

And these also stagger from wine and reel from beer: Priests and prophets stagger from beer and are befuddled with wine; they reel from beer, they stagger when seeing visions, they stumble when rendering decisions.All the tables are covered with vomit and there is not a spot without filth. (niv)

Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless— not overbearing, not quick- tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. (niv)
