And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.For verily he took not on[ him the nature of] angels; but he took on[ him] the seed of Abraham.Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto[ his] brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things[ pertaining] to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

Then he took[ unto him] the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:And they shall scourge[ him], and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.

Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.

Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest[ it] in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.Likewise also the chief priests mocking[ him], with the scribes and elders, said,He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

Jesus wept.

Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries[ are] all before thee.Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked[ for some] to take pity, but[ there was] none; and for comforters, but I found none.

And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let[ him] go.But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.

But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered[ with fatness]; then he forsook God[ which] made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.

Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;And gave them for the potter’s field, as the Lord appointed me.

When I wept,[ and chastened] my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I[ was] the song of the drunkards.

Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul lothed them, and their soul also abhorred me.

And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this[ man], and release unto us Barabbas:( Who for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.But they cried, saying, Crucify[ him], crucify him.And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let[ him] go.And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

But I[ am] poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.
