He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

His servant grew up like a tender young plant. He grew like a root coming up out of dry ground. He didn’t have any beauty or majesty that made us notice him. There wasn’t anything special about the way he looked that drew us to him.

從耶西的樹幹必生出一根嫩芽，從他的根而出的枝條必結果子。

“‘主耶和華這樣說：我要從高大香柏樹的樹梢上取去一根樹枝，把它栽上；我要從樹頂的嫩枝中折下一根枝子，把它栽種在高聳的山上；我要把它栽種在以色列的高山上，它要長出枝子，結出果子，成為佳美的香柏樹；各種各類的飛鳥都必在樹下棲宿，就是棲宿在枝子的蔭下。田野所有的樹木都必知道我耶和華使高大的樹矮小，矮小的樹高大；使青綠的樹枯乾，枯乾的樹茂盛。我耶和華怎樣說了，就必怎樣行。’”

他在世界，世界也是藉著他造的，世界卻不認識他。他到自己的地方來，自己的人卻不接受他。凡接受他的，就是信他名的人，他就賜給他們權利，成為神的兒女。他們不是從血統生的，不是從肉身的意思生的，也不是從人意生的，而是從神生的。道成了肉身，住在我們中間，滿有恩典和真理。我們見過他的榮光，正是從父而來的獨生子的榮光。

耶穌說：“以利亞固然要先來復興一切，但聖經為甚麼又記載人子要受許多苦，被人藐視呢？

“看哪！日子快到（這是耶和華的宣告），我必給大衛興起一個公義的苗裔；他必執政為王，行事有智慧，在地上施行公正和公義。

這不是那木匠嗎？不是馬利亞的兒子，雅各、約西、猶大、西門的哥哥嗎？他的妹妹們不也在我們這裡嗎？”他們就厭棄耶穌。

那天是逾越節的預備日，約在正午的時候。彼拉多對猶太人說：“看，你們的王！”他們就喊叫起來：“除掉他！除掉他！把他釘十字架！”彼拉多問他們：“我可以把你們的王釘十字架嗎？”祭司長回答：“除了凱撒，我們沒有王！”

耶穌說：“狐狸有洞，天空的飛鳥有窩，人子卻沒有棲身的地方。”

於是耶穌出來，戴著荊棘的冠冕，披著紫色的外袍。彼拉多對他們說：“看，這個人！”

律法是因肉體而軟弱無力，所作不到的，神作到了：他差遣自己的兒子成為罪身的樣式，為了除掉罪，就在肉體中把罪判決了，

他們就罵他，說：“你才是他的門徒，我們是摩西的門徒。我們知道神曾對摩西說話；只是這個人，我們不知道他從哪裡來。”

或是君王所派賞善罰惡的官員；

告訴他說：‘萬軍之耶和華這樣說：看哪！有一個人名叫大衛的苗裔，他必從自己的地方生長起來，並要建造耶和華的殿。

他們又喊叫說：“不要他！要巴拉巴！”這巴拉巴是個強盜。

他們按著主的律法辦完一切，就回加利利，到自己的城拿撒勒去了。孩子漸漸長大，強壯起來，充滿智慧，有神的恩典在他身上。

生了頭胎兒子，用布包著，放在馬槽裡，因為客店裡沒有地方。

他就同他們下去，回到拿撒勒，並且順從他們。他母親把這一切事，都存在心裡。耶穌的智慧和身量，以及神和人對他的喜愛，都不斷增長。
