“ Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness, his upper rooms by injustice, making his own people work for nothing, not paying them for their labor.He says,‘ I will build myself a great palace with spacious upper rooms.’ So he makes large windows in it, panels it with cedar and decorates it in red.“ Does it make you a king to have more and more cedar? Did not your father have food and drink? He did what was right and just, so all went well with him.He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not what it means to know me?” declares the Lord.“ But your eyes and your heart are set only on dishonest gain, on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and extortion.”

When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up and went down to take possession of Naboth’s vineyard.Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite:“ Go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who rules in Samaria. He is now in Naboth’s vineyard, where he has gone to take possession of it.Say to him,‘ This is what the Lord says: Have you not murdered a man and seized his property?’ Then say to him,‘ This is what the Lord says: In the place where dogs licked up Naboth’s blood, dogs will lick up your blood— yes, yours!’”Ahab said to Elijah,“ So you have found me, my enemy!”“ I have found you,” he answered,“ because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord.

And he told them this parable:“ The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest.He thought to himself,‘ What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’“ Then he said,‘ This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain.And I’ll say to myself,“ You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’“ But God said to him,‘ You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’“ This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”Then Jesus said to his disciples:“ Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!

“ Son of man, the people living in those ruins in the land of Israel are saying,‘ Abraham was only one man, yet he possessed the land. But we are many; surely the land has been given to us as our possession.’

“ Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to.
