I am against you. This is the declaration of the LORD of Armies. I will lift your skirts over your face and display your nakedness to nations, your shame to kingdoms.

I am therefore going to gather all the lovers you pleased— all those you loved as well as all those you hated. I will gather them against you from all around and expose your nakedness to them so they see you completely naked.

Sharpen the arrows! Fill the quivers! The LORD has roused the spirit of the kings of the Medes because his plan is aimed at Babylon to destroy her, for it is the LORD’s vengeance, vengeance for his temple.

He put on righteousness as body armor, and a helmet of salvation on his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and he wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak.So he will repay according to their deeds: fury to his enemies, retribution to his foes, and he will repay the coasts and islands.

For we know the one who has said, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, and again, The Lord will judge his people.It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

“ King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me. He has set me aside like an empty dish; he has swallowed me like a sea monster; he filled his belly with my delicacies; he has vomited me out.Let the violence done to me and my family be done to Babylon,” says the inhabitant of Zion.“ Let my blood be on the inhabitants of Chaldea,” says Jerusalem.Therefore, this is what the LORD says: I am about to champion your cause and take vengeance on your behalf; I will dry up her sea and make her fountain run dry.

Vengeance and retribution belong to me. In time their foot will slip, for their day of disaster is near, and their doom is coming quickly.”

Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for God’s wrath, because it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.

for a destroyer is coming against her, against Babylon. Her warriors will be captured, their bows shattered, for the LORD is a God of retribution; he will certainly repay.

You nations, come here and listen; you peoples, pay attention! Let the earth and all that fills it hear, the world and all that comes from it.The LORD is angry with all the nations, furious with all their armies. He will set them apart for destruction, giving them over to slaughter.Their slain will be thrown out, and the stench of their corpses will rise; the mountains will flow with their blood.All the stars in the sky will dissolve. The sky will roll up like a scroll, and its stars will all wither as leaves wither on the vine, and foliage on the fig tree.When my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens, it will then come down on Edom and on the people I have set apart for destruction.The LORD’s sword is covered with blood. It drips with fat, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, a great slaughter in the land of Edom.The wild oxen will be struck down with them, and young bulls with the mighty bulls. Their land will be soaked with blood, and their soil will be saturated with fat.For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a time of paying back Edom for its hostility against Zion.

Put all her young bulls to the sword; let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them because their day has come, the time of their punishment.There is a voice of fugitives and refugees from the land of Babylon. The voice announces in Zion the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance for his temple.

LORD, God of vengeance— God of vengeance, shine!Rise up, Judge of the earth; repay the proud what they deserve.

Those who were slain will fall in the land of the Chaldeans, those who were pierced through, in her streets.

For her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.Pay her back the way she also paid, and double it according to her works. In the cup in which she mixed, mix a double portion for her.As much as she glorified herself and indulged her sensual and excessive ways, give her that much torment and grief. For she says in her heart,“ I sit as a queen; I am not a widow, and I will never see grief.”For this reason her plagues will come in just one day— death and grief and famine. She will be burned up with fire, because the Lord God who judges her is mighty.

when I sharpen my flashing sword, and my hand takes hold of judgment, I will take vengeance on my adversaries and repay those who hate me.I will make my arrows drunk with blood while my sword devours flesh— the blood of the slain and the captives, the heads of the enemy leaders.”Rejoice, you nations, concerning his people, for he will avenge the blood of his servants. He will take vengeance on his adversaries; he will purify his land and his people.

The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. Babylon the Great was remembered in God’s presence; he gave her the cup filled with the wine of his fierce anger.

I will pull your skirts up over your face so that your shame might be seen.

When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slaughtered because of the word of God and the testimony they had given.They cried out with a loud voice,“ Lord, the one who is holy and true, how long until you judge those who live on the earth and avenge our blood?”

For I planned the day of vengeance, and the year of my redemption came.I looked, but there was no one to help, and I was amazed that no one assisted; so my arm accomplished victory for me, and my wrath assisted me.I crushed nations in my anger; I made them drunk with my wrath and poured out their blood on the ground.

Rejoice over her, heaven, and you saints, apostles, and prophets, because God has pronounced on her the judgment she passed on you!

You are my war club, my weapons of war. With you I will smash nations; with you I will bring kingdoms to ruin.With you I will smash the horse and its rider; with you I will smash the chariot and its rider.With you I will smash man and woman; with you I will smash the old man and the youth; with you I will smash the young man and the young woman.With you I will smash the shepherd and his flock; with you I will smash the farmer and his ox-team. With you I will smash governors and officials.“ Before your very eyes, I will repay Babylon and all the residents of Chaldea for all their evil they have done in Zion.” This is the LORD’s declaration.

And when you ask yourself,“ Why have these things happened to me?” it is because of your great guilt that your skirts have been stripped off, your body exposed.

Daughter Babylon, doomed to destruction, happy is the one who pays you back what you have done to us.Happy is he who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rocks.
