永恆主對假神說：呈上你們的案件吧！雅各的王說：提出你們最有力的辯護吧！讓他們提出，並告訴我們所要發生的事。把先前的事是甚麼事告訴我們，好讓我們用心思想，好知道其結局；或者把將來的事說給我們聽聽！把此後要來的事說明說明！好叫我們知道你們是神；啊，降福或降禍吧，使我們彷徨張望，同時又懼怕呀！看哪，你們簡直是無有，你們的作為乃是虛無；那選擇你們的是「可厭惡」。我激動一個人從北方而起，他就來，從日出之地而來，他就呼求我的名；他必踐踏掌權者像踏泥土，像窰匠踹淤泥一樣。誰從起初宣告，使我們知道呢？誰從先前說明，使我們說『對！』呢？啊，誰也沒有宣告，啊，誰也沒有說給人聽，啊，誰也沒有聽見你們的宣言呀！

你儘管使我記得：你我可以一同辯訴呀；你儘可以陳明，以便自證為對啊。

沿海地帶啊，要靜靜聽我！讓萬國之民從新得力哦！讓他們進前來，然後說話；我們一同辯訴吧！

誰像我？讓他宣告出來；讓他在我面前辯訴陳明；誰曾老早就把未來的事先說給人聽啊？讓他把將要來的事告訴我們吧。你們不要恐懼，不要懼怕我不是從上古就說給你聽，就告訴了你了麼？你們就是我的見證！我以外哪有真神呢？實在沒有磐石；我不知道有啊。』製造雕像的盡都虛空；他們所喜愛的都沒有用處；他們的見證人毫無所見，毫無所知，以致自己失望。

大能者上帝永恆主在說話；他從日出之地到日落之處呼喚着大地。

我從上古就告訴了你了，事未發生以先，我就說給你聽了：免得你說：「是我的偶像作的，是我雕刻的偶像、我鑄造的神像命定的。」『你已經聽見，已經見過這一切；難道你不告訴人麼？從今以後、我將新的事、隱藏的事、而你不知道的、說給你聽。

以利亞湊近眾民面前，說：『你們猶豫於兩可之間、要到幾時呢？如果永恆主是上帝，你們就應該隨從永恆主；如果巴力是上帝，你們就隨從巴力好啦。』眾民一句話也不回答。以利亞對眾民說：『永恆主的神言人只剩下我一個；巴力的神言人卻有四百五十個。請給我們兩隻公牛；他們挑選一隻，切成塊子，放在柴上，不要放火；我也豫備一隻，擺在柴上，也不放火。你們呼求你們的神的名，我也呼求永恆主耶和華的名；那降火顯應的神，就是上帝。』眾民回答說：『這話很好。』

四圍各方的列國啊，趕來救助，集合在一起吧！永恆主啊，叫你的勇士下來哦！

萬族之民哪，你們要聽這話；人世的居民哪，你們都側耳聽吧！無論上流下流，富足貧窮，一概要聽。

倘若你們以事奉永恆主為不好，那麼你們今日就可以選擇你們所要事奉的：到底是你們列祖在大河那邊所事奉的神呢？還是你們住於其地的亞摩利人的神呢？至於我和我的家呢、我們是必定事奉永恆主的。』人民回答說：『我們絕對不離棄永恆主、去事奉別的神；因為是永恆主我們的上帝、他把我們和我們列祖從埃及地為奴之家領上來的，是他在我們眼前行了那些大神迹的，是他在我們所行的一切路上、又在我們所經過的別族之民中保護了我們的；永恆主又把別族之民、住這地的亞摩利人、都從我們面前趕出；所以我們、也必定事奉永恆主，因為他才是我們的上帝。』約書亞對人民說：『你們不能事奉永恆主；因為他是聖別的上帝；他是忌邪的上帝；他必不赦免你們的過犯罪惡。倘若你們離棄了永恆主，去事奉外族人的神，那麼永恆主在使你們得福之後，就一定轉而降禍與你們、把你們都滅盡。』人民對約書亞說：『不；我們總要事奉永恆主。』約書亞對人民說：『你們為自己選擇了永恆主、要事奉他：你們對自己作證吧。』他們說：『我們願意作證。』約書亞說：那麼『現在你們要除掉你們中間外族人的神，傾心歸向永恆主以色列的上帝。』人民對約書亞說：『永恆主我們的上帝、我們要事奉；他的聲音、我們要聽從。』

在獻上素祭的時候、神言人以利亞湊近前去、說：『亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的上帝永恆主啊，求你今天使人知道你乃是以色列中的上帝，而我是你的僕人，又是奉你吩咐的話行這一切事的。永恆主啊，應允我，應允我；求你使這人民知道你永恆主乃是上帝，又知道是你使這人民的心回轉過來的。』於是永恆主的火便降下來，燒盡了燔祭、木柴、石頭、塵土，又把溝裏的水都餂燒乾了。眾民看見了，就臉伏於地，說：『永恆主才是上帝！永恆主才是上帝！』

『列國啊，你們都集合來聽吧！它們偶像中誰曾將這些事告訴過人呢？永恆主愛他，他必向巴比倫行永恆主的旨意，他的膀臂也必擊打迦勒底人。

『列國逃脫的人哪，集合攏來，一同走近前哦！那些抬着木頭雕像的、直禱告那不能救人之神的、毫無知識。你們訴明吧，提出吧！讓他們一同商議吧！誰從古時就把這一點說給人聽呢？誰從上古就把它訴明出來呢？不是我永恆主麼？我以外再沒有上帝，一位顯義氣的上帝，即是拯救者；除了我以外、並沒有別的神。

我從起初就說出末後的事，從古時就言明未成的事，說：「我的計畫必立定，我所喜悅的、我都必作成」；
