Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms.

So the children of Israel said to Samuel,“ Do not cease to cry out to the Lord our God for us, that He may save us from the hand of the Philistines.”And Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. Then Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him.

And Asa cried out to the Lord his God, and said,“ Lord, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O Lord our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!”

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Then King David went in and sat before the Lord; and he said:“ Who am I, O Lord GOD? And what is my house, that You have brought me this far?And yet this was a small thing in Your sight, O Lord GOD; and You have also spoken of Your servant’s house for a great while to come. Is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?Now what more can David say to You? For You, Lord GOD, know Your servant.For Your word’s sake, and according to Your own heart, You have done all these great things, to make Your servant know them.Therefore You are great, O Lord GOD. For there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.And who is like Your people, like Israel, the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make for Himself a name— and to do for Yourself great and awesome deeds for Your land— before Your people whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, the nations, and their gods?For You have made Your people Israel Your very own people forever; and You, Lord, have become their God.“ Now, O Lord God, the word which You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house, establish it forever and do as You have said.So let Your name be magnified forever, saying,‘ The Lord of hosts is the God over Israel.’ And let the house of Your servant David be established before You.For You, O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, have revealed this to Your servant, saying,‘ I will build you a house.’ Therefore Your servant has found it in his heart to pray this prayer to You.“ And now, O Lord God, You are God, and Your words are true, and You have promised this goodness to Your servant.Now therefore, let it please You to bless the house of Your servant, that it may continue before You forever; for You, O Lord God, have spoken it, and with Your blessing let the house of Your servant be blessed forever.”

Then Hezekiah prayed before the Lord, and said:“ O Lord God of Israel, the One who dwells between the cherubim, You are God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.Incline Your ear, O Lord, and hear; open Your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God.Truly, Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste the nations and their lands,and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were not gods, but the work of men’s hands— wood and stone. Therefore they destroyed them.Now therefore, O Lord our God, I pray, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You are the Lord God, You alone.”

and said:“ O Lord God of our fathers, are You not God in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations, and in Your hand is there not power and might, so that no one is able to withstand You?Are You not our God, who drove out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel, and gave it to the descendants of Abraham Your friend forever?And they dwell in it, and have built You a sanctuary in it for Your name, saying,‘ If disaster comes upon us— sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine— we will stand before this temple and in Your presence( for Your name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save.’And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir— whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them—here they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit.O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”

Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.And I prayed to the Lord my God, and made confession, and said,“ O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those who keep His commandments,
