In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah’s reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.

耶和華必使亞述王攻擊的日子臨到你、你的子民和你的父家；這是自從以法蓮脫離猶大以來，未曾有過的日子。

看哪！他們的勇士在街上呼叫，和平的使者痛苦地哭泣。大道荒涼，行人絕跡；約被破壞，城被厭棄，人也不被重視。

亞述人來到亞葉，經過米磯崙，在米克瑪安放輜重。他們過了關口，說：「我們要把迦巴當作宿營地！」於是拉瑪人戰兢，掃羅-基比亞人逃跑。迦琳的民哪，高聲呼喊吧！拉億和困苦的亞納圖啊，留心聽吧！瑪得米納逃亡，基柄的居民避難。就在那日，亞述人要在挪伯站住，揮手攻擊錫安城的山，就是耶路撒冷的岡陵。

你們的國土荒涼，你們的城市被火燒毀；你們的田地，在你們面前被外族人吞噬，荒涼得就像被外族人覆滅了一樣。只有錫安城留了下來，像葡萄園中的棚子，像瓜田裡的茅屋，又像被圍困的城邑。
