They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

His mouth is full of lies and threats; trouble and evil are under his tongue.He lies in wait near the villages; from ambush he murders the innocent. His eyes watch in secret for his victims;like a lion in cover he lies in wait. He lies in wait to catch the helpless; he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.His victims are crushed, they collapse; they fall under his strength.

Your rulers are rebels, partners with thieves; they all love bribes and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow’s case does not come before them.

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,

For your hands are stained with blood, your fingers with guilt. Your lips have spoken falsely, and your tongue mutters wicked things.No one calls for justice; no one pleads a case with integrity. They rely on empty arguments, they utter lies; they conceive trouble and give birth to evil.

The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death.But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward

They shoot from ambush at the innocent; they shoot suddenly, without fear.They encourage each other in evil plans, they talk about hiding their snares; they say,“ Who will see it?”They plot injustice and say,“ We have devised a perfect plan!” Surely the human mind and heart are cunning.

The faithful have been swept from the land; not one upright person remains. Everyone lies in wait to shed blood; they hunt each other with nets.Both hands are skilled in doing evil; the ruler demands gifts, the judge accepts bribes, the powerful dictate what they desire— they all conspire together.

But seat two scoundrels opposite him and have them bring charges that he has cursed both God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death.”So the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city did as Jezebel directed in the letters she had written to them.They proclaimed a fast and seated Naboth in a prominent place among the people.Then two scoundrels came and sat opposite him and brought charges against Naboth before the people, saying,“ Naboth has cursed both God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death.Then they sent word to Jezebel:“ Naboth has been stoned to death.”
