“ Assyria will fall by no human sword; a sword, not of mortals, will devour them. They will flee before the sword and their young men will be put to forced labor.

The Lord says,“ The Assyrians will be killed by swords. But the swords that kill them will not be used by human beings. The Assyrians will run away from those swords. But their young men will be caught and forced to work hard.

“ And the Assyrian shall fall by a sword, not of man; and a sword, not of man, shall devour him; and he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall be put to forced labor.

“ The Assyrians will be destroyed, but not by the swords of men. The sword of God will strike them, and they will panic and flee. The strong young Assyrians will be taken away as captives.

因我為自己的緣故，又為我僕人大衛的緣故，必保護拯救這城。」耶和華的使者出去，在亞述營中殺了十八萬五千人。清早有人起來一看，都是死屍了。亞述王西拿基立就拔營回去，住在尼尼微。一日在他的神－尼斯洛廟裏叩拜，他兒子亞得米勒和沙利色用刀殺了他，就逃到亞拉臘地。他兒子以撒哈頓接續他作王。

你仇敵的羣眾，卻要像細塵；強暴人的羣眾，也要像飛糠。這事必頃刻之間忽然臨到。

因此，主－萬軍之耶和華必使亞述王的肥壯人變為瘦弱，在他的榮華之下必有火着起，如同焚燒一樣。以色列的光必如火；他的聖者必如火焰。在一日之間，將亞述王的荊棘和蒺藜焚燒淨盡；又將他樹林和肥田的榮耀全然燒盡，好像拿軍旗的昏過去一樣。他林中剩下的樹必稀少，就是孩子也能寫其數。

耶和華就差遣一個使者進入亞述王營中，把所有大能的勇士和官長、將帥盡都滅了。亞述王滿面含羞地回到本國，進了他神的廟中，有他親生的兒子在那裏用刀殺了他。

看哪，耶和華的名從遠方來，怒氣燒起，密煙上騰。他的嘴唇滿有忿恨；他的舌頭像吞滅的火。他的氣如漲溢的河水，直漲到頸項，要用毀滅的篩籮篩淨列國，並且在眾民的口中必有使人錯行的嚼環。你們必唱歌，像守聖節的夜間一樣，並且心中喜樂，像人吹笛，上耶和華的山，到以色列的磐石那裏。耶和華必使人聽他威嚴的聲音，又顯他降罰的膀臂和他怒中的忿恨，並吞滅的火焰與霹雷、暴風、冰雹。亞述人必因耶和華的聲音驚惶；耶和華必用杖擊打他。耶和華必將命定的杖加在他身上；每打一下，人必擊鼓彈琴。打仗的時候，耶和華必掄起手來，與他交戰。原來陀斐特又深又寬，早已為王預備好了；其中堆的是火與許多木柴。耶和華的氣如一股硫磺火使他着起來。

主在錫安山和耶路撒冷成就他一切工作的時候，主說：「我必罰亞述王自大的心和他高傲眼目的榮耀。」

看哪，主－萬軍之耶和華以驚嚇削去樹枝；長高的必被砍下，高大的必被伐倒。稠密的樹林，他要用鐵器砍下；黎巴嫩的樹木必被大能者伐倒。

我卻要憐憫猶大家，使他們靠耶和華－他們的神得救，不使他們靠弓、刀、爭戰、馬匹，與馬兵得救。」

我必驚動他的心；他要聽見風聲就歸回本地，我必使他在那裏倒在刀下。』」
