“ Assyria will fall by no human sword; a sword, not of mortals, will devour them. They will flee before the sword and their young men will be put to forced labor.

The Lord says,“ The Assyrians will be killed by swords. But the swords that kill them will not be used by human beings. The Assyrians will run away from those swords. But their young men will be caught and forced to work hard.

“ The Assyrians will be destroyed, but not by the swords of men. The sword of God will strike them, and they will panic and flee. The strong young Assyrians will be taken away as captives.

Then Assyria will fall, but not by human sword; a sword will devour him, but not one made by man. He will flee from the sword; his young men will be put to forced labor.

And the Assyrian will fall by a sword not wielded by a man, And a sword not of man will devour him. So he will not escape the sword, And his young men will become forced laborers.

要知道，我必为自己的缘故和我仆人大卫的缘故，保护拯救这城。’”于是耶和华的使者出去，在亚述的营中击杀了十八万五千人；清早人们起来，看哪，所见的都是死尸！亚述王西纳基立就拔营回去，住在尼尼微。有一天，西纳基立在自己的神尼斯洛的庙里下拜，他的儿子亚得米勒和沙利色用刀杀了他，然后逃到亚拉腊地。他的儿子以撒哈顿接替他作王。

然而，你成群的外敌必变得像细小的灰尘，那些成群的强横者必像被吹散的糠秕。

因此，主万军之耶和华必使衰败临到亚述王肥壮的勇士；在亚述王的荣耀之下，必有火燃起，如同烈火燃烧。以色列的光必成为火，他的圣者必成为烈焰，一日之内就把亚述王的荆棘和蒺藜焚烧吞没；亚述王树林和果园的荣美必全然灭绝，好像病重的人消逝那样。林中所残余的树，少得连孩子也能记下来。

看哪，有威名的耶和华从远方而来！他的怒气燃烧，浓烟上腾；他的嘴唇充满愤怒，他的舌头像吞噬的烈火；他的气息如漫溢的河水，直涨到颈项；他要用毁灭的筛把列国筛净，又在众民的脸颊套上使他们迷失的辔头。你们却会歌唱，像守圣节的夜晚那样；并会心里喜乐，像人伴着笛声行走，上耶和华的山，到以色列的磐石那里。耶和华必使人听见他威严的声音，又以猛烈的怒气、吞噬的火焰、暴雨、狂风和石头般的冰雹，使人看见他抡下来的膀臂。亚述人必因耶和华的声音而丧胆，耶和华必用杖击打他们；耶和华施刑的杖每打他们一下，人都会击鼓和弹琴；打仗的时候，耶和华必挥手与他们争战。原来，那焚烧场早已安排好了，是为君王所预备的；它又深又宽，其中充满了火和许多木柴；耶和华的气息如同一股硫磺火使它燃烧起来。

当主完成了针对锡安山和耶路撒冷的一切工作时，他必说：“我要惩罚亚述王心思自大的作为和眼目高傲的虚夸。”

看哪！主万军之耶和华将以震撼之力削去树枝；高耸的必被砍下，高大的必被伐倒；树林中的密丛，他必用铁器砍掉；黎巴嫩必因威严的那一位而倒下。

看哪！我要把一个灵放入亚述王里面，让他一听见传来的风声就返回本土；我必使他在那里倒在刀下。’”
