But Pharaoh’s protection will bring you nothing but shame, and the safety of Egypt’s protective shade nothing but humiliation.

爾惟法老之勢力是恃、埃及之庇蔭是賴、則必含羞蒙恥、

爾恃法老之勢力、終必抱愧、望於伊及得蔭庇、定蒙羞辱、

But Pharaoh’s protection will be to your shame, Egypt’s shade will bring you disgrace.

But looking to Pharaoh will only bring them shame. Asking Egypt for help will bring them dishonor.

Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame, and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation.

But by trusting Pharaoh, you will be humiliated, and by depending on him, you will be disgraced.

But Pharaoh’s protection will become your shame, and refuge in Egypt’s shadow your humiliation.

Therefore the safety of Pharaoh will be your shame, And the shelter in the shadow of Egypt, your humiliation.

Therefore the strength of Pharaoh Shall be your shame, And trust in the shadow of Egypt Shall be your humiliation.

Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

But Pharaoh’s protection will become your shame, and refuge in Egypt’s shadow your disgrace.

Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt[ your] confusion.

Therefore the strength of Pharaoh will be your shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

Those who put their hope in Cush and took pride in Egypt will be afraid and embarrassed.

The LORD says,“ I will put a curse on people who trust in mere human beings, who depend on mere flesh and blood for their strength, and whose hearts have turned away from the LORD.They will be like a shrub in the desert. They will not experience good things even when they happen. It will be as though they were growing in the desert, in a salt land where no one can live.

And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

For the scripture says,“ Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”

At that time the Babylonian forces had temporarily given up their siege against Jerusalem. They had had it under siege, but withdrew when they heard that the army of Pharaoh had set out from Egypt.)The LORD gave the prophet Jeremiah a message for them. He told him to tell them,“ The LORD God of Israel says,‘ Give a message to the king of Judah who sent you to ask me to help him. Tell him,“ The army of Pharaoh that was on its way to help you will go back home to Egypt.Then the Babylonian forces will return. They will attack the city and will capture it and burn it down.Moreover, I, the LORD, warn you not to deceive yourselves into thinking that the Babylonian forces will go away and leave you alone. For they will not go away.For even if you were to defeat all the Babylonian forces fighting against you so badly that only wounded men were left lying in their tents, they would get up and burn this city down.”’”

all will be put to shame because of a nation that cannot help them, who cannot give them aid or help, but only shame and disgrace.”This is a message about the animals in the Negev: Through a land of distress and danger, inhabited by lionesses and roaring lions, by snakes and darting adders, they transport their wealth on the backs of donkeys, their riches on the humps of camels, to a nation that cannot help them.Egypt is totally incapable of helping. They will all be ashamed and embarrassed; those who fashion idols will all be humiliated.Israel will be delivered once and for all by the LORD; you will never again be ashamed or humiliated.

Look, you must be trusting in Egypt, that splintered reed staff. If someone leans on it for support, it punctures his hand and wounds him. That is what Pharaoh king of Egypt does to all who trust in him!
