原来，床榻短，使人不能舒身；被窝窄，使人不能遮体。

床铺太短，人就不能伸直，被窝太窄，就盖不住全身。

榻短不能舒體、被狹不能蔽身、

諺云、床榻甚短、不能暢其四肢、衾裯甚狹、不能蔽其全體、

其勢必如床短不能舒身、被狹不足蔽體、

The bed is too short to stretch out on, the blanket too narrow to wrap around you.

You will be like someone whose bed is too short to lie down on. You will be like those whose blankets are too small to wrap themselves in.

For the bed is too short to stretch oneself on, and the covering too narrow to wrap oneself in.

The bed you have made is too short to lie on. The blankets are too narrow to cover you.

Indeed, the bed is too short to stretch out on, and its cover too small to wrap up in.

The bed is too short on which to stretch out, And the blanket is too small to wrap oneself in.

For the bed is too short to stretch out on, And the covering so narrow that one cannot wrap himself in it.

For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it; and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.

Indeed, the bed is too short to stretch out on, and its cover too small to wrap up in.

For the bed is shorter than that[ a man] can stretch himself[ on it]: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself[ in it].

For the bed is too short to stretch out on, and the blanket is too narrow to wrap around oneself.

What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, who didn’t follow after righteousness, attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith;but Israel, following after a law of righteousness, didn’t arrive at the law of righteousness.Why? Because they didn’t seek it by faith, but as it were by works of the law. They stumbled over the stumbling stone;

He who kills an ox is as he who kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog’s neck; he who offers an offering, as he who offers pig’s blood; he who burns frankincense, as he who blesses an idol. Yes, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations:I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears on them; because when I called, no one answered; when I spoke, they didn’t listen; but they did that which was evil in my eyes, and chose that in which I didn’t delight.”Hear Yahweh’s word, you who tremble at his word:“ Your brothers who hate you, who cast you out for my name’s sake, have said,‘ Let Yahweh be glorified, that we may see your joy;’ but it is those who shall be disappointed.A voice of tumult from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of Yahweh that repays his enemies what they deserve.

Behold, you trust in lying words that can’t profit.Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods that you have not known,then come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say,‘ We are delivered;’ that you may do all these abominations?

They hatch adders’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web. He who eats of their eggs dies; and that which is crushed breaks out into a viper.Their webs won’t become garments. They won’t cover themselves with their works. Their works are works of iniquity, and acts of violence are in their hands.

I will declare your righteousness; and as for your works, they will not benefit you.When you cry, let those whom you have gathered deliver you; but the wind will take them. a breath will carry them all away: but he who takes refuge in me will possess the land, and will inherit my holy mountain.”

For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are dying, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.For it is written,“ I will destroy the wisdom of the wise. I will bring the discernment of the discerning to nothing.”Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Hasn’t God made foolish the wisdom of this world?For seeing that in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom didn’t know God, it was God’s good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save those who believe.For Jews ask for signs, Greeks seek after wisdom,but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews, and foolishness to Greeks,but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God;because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble;but God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world that he might put to shame the things that are strong.God chose the lowly things of the world, and the things that are despised, and the things that don’t exist, that he might bring to nothing the things that exist,that no flesh should boast before God.Because of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:that, as it is written,“ He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord.”

For we have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteousness is like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
