For the bed is too short to stretch out on, And the covering so narrow that one cannot wrap himself in it.

原来，床榻短，使人不能舒身；被窝窄，使人不能遮体。

榻短不能舒體、被狹不能蔽身、

諺云、床榻甚短、不能暢其四肢、衾裯甚狹、不能蔽其全體、

其勢必如床短不能舒身、被狹不足蔽體、

The bed is too short to stretch out on, the blanket too narrow to wrap around you.

You will be like someone whose bed is too short to lie down on. You will be like those whose blankets are too small to wrap themselves in.

For the bed is too short to stretch oneself on, and the covering too narrow to wrap oneself in.

The bed you have made is too short to lie on. The blankets are too narrow to cover you.

Indeed, the bed is too short to stretch out on, and its cover too small to wrap up in.

The bed is too short on which to stretch out, And the blanket is too small to wrap oneself in.

For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it; and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.

Indeed, the bed is too short to stretch out on, and its cover too small to wrap up in.

What shall we say then? That Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness of faith;but Israel, pursuing the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness.Why? Because they did not seek it by faith, but as it were, by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumbling stone.

“ He who kills a bull is as if he slays a man; He who sacrifices a lamb, as if he breaks a dog’s neck; He who offers a grain offering, as if he offers swine’s blood; He who burns incense, as if he blesses an idol. Just as they have chosen their own ways, And their soul delights in their abominations,So will I choose their delusions, And bring their fears on them; Because, when I called, no one answered, When I spoke they did not hear; But they did evil before My eyes, And chose that in which I do not delight.”Hear the word of the Lord, You who tremble at His word:“ Your brethren who hated you, Who cast you out for My name’s sake, said,‘ Let the Lord be glorified, That we may see your joy.’ But they shall be ashamed.”The sound of noise from the city! A voice from the temple! The voice of the Lord, Who fully repays His enemies!

“ Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit.Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and walk after other gods whom you do not know,and then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say,‘ We are delivered to do all these abominations’?

They hatch vipers’ eggs and weave the spider’s web; He who eats of their eggs dies, And from that which is crushed a viper breaks out.Their webs will not become garments, Nor will they cover themselves with their works; Their works are works of iniquity, And the act of violence is in their hands.

I will declare your righteousness And your works, For they will not profit you.When you cry out, Let your collection of idols deliver you. But the wind will carry them all away, A breath will take them. But he who puts his trust in Me shall possess the land, And shall inherit My holy mountain.”

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.For it is written:“ I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom;but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness,but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,that no flesh should glory in His presence.But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God— and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—that, as it is written,“ He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”

But we are all like an unclean thing, And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.
