他們就拿住耶利米，把他丟在王的兒子瑪基雅的井裏；那口井在護衛兵的院中。他們用繩子把耶利米縋下去，井裏沒有水，只有淤泥，耶利米就陷在淤泥中。在王宮裏的太監古實人以伯‧米勒，聽見他們把耶利米丟進井裏，那時王坐在便雅憫門前。以伯‧米勒從王宮裏出來，對王說：「主－我的王啊，這些人向耶利米先知一味地行惡，把他丟在井裏；他在那裏必因飢餓而死，因為城裏不再有糧食了。」王就吩咐古實人以伯‧米勒說：「你從這裏帶領三十人，趁耶利米先知還沒死，把他從井裏拉上來。」於是以伯‧米勒帶領這些人同去，進入王宮，到庫房以下，從那裏取了些碎布和破衣服，用繩子縋下去，到井裏耶利米那裏。古實人以伯‧米勒對耶利米說：「你用這些碎布和破衣服放在繩子上，墊你的腋下。」耶利米就照樣做。這樣，他們用繩子將耶利米從井裏拉上來。耶利米仍在護衛兵的院中。

地上的居民哪，驚嚇、陷阱、羅網都臨到你；

那五個王逃跑，躲在瑪基大洞裏。有人告訴約書亞說：「那五個王已經找到了，都躲在瑪基大洞裏。」

耶和華興起使地大震動的時候，人就進入石洞和土穴裏，躲避耶和華的驚嚇和他威嚴的榮光。

過了多日，你必被差派；到末後之年，你要來到那脫離刀劍、從列國召集回來的人所住之地，來到以色列常久荒涼的山上；他們都從列國中被領出，在那裏安然居住。

約書亞說：「打開洞口，把那五個王從洞裏帶出來，到我這裏。」眾人就這樣做，把那五個王，就是耶路撒冷王、希伯崙王、耶末王、拉吉王和伊磯倫王，從洞裏帶出來，到約書亞那裏。他們帶出那五個王到約書亞那裏的時候，約書亞就召了以色列眾人來，對和他同去的軍官說：「你們近前來，把腳踏在這些王的頸項上。」他們就近前來，把腳踏在這些王的頸項上。約書亞對他們說：「你們不要懼怕，也不要驚惶。當剛強壯膽，因為耶和華必這樣處置你們要攻打的所有仇敵。」隨後，約書亞把這五個王殺死，掛在五棵樹上。他們就被掛在樹上，直到晚上。

他們只得屈身在被擄的人之下，仆倒在被殺的人中間。雖然如此，耶和華的怒氣並未轉消；他的手依然伸出。
