他們就拿住耶利米，下在哈米勒的兒子瑪基雅的牢獄裏；那牢獄在護衛兵的院中。他們用繩子將耶利米繫下去。牢獄裏沒有水，只有淤泥，耶利米就陷在淤泥中。在王宮的太監古實人以伯‧米勒，聽見他們將耶利米下了牢獄（那時王坐在便雅憫門口），以伯‧米勒就從王宮裏出來，對王說：「主－我的王啊，這些人向先知耶利米一味地行惡，將他下在牢獄中；他在那裏必因飢餓而死，因為城中再沒有糧食。」王就吩咐古實人以伯‧米勒說：「你從這裏帶領三十人，趁着先知耶利米未死以前，將他從牢獄中提上來。」於是以伯‧米勒帶領這些人同去，進入王宮，到庫房以下，從那裏取了些碎布和破爛的衣服，用繩子縋下牢獄去到耶利米那裏。古實人以伯‧米勒對耶利米說：「你用這些碎布和破爛的衣服放在繩子上，墊你的胳肢窩。」耶利米就照樣行了。這樣，他們用繩子將耶利米從牢獄裏拉上來。耶利米仍在護衛兵的院中。

地上的居民哪，恐懼、陷坑、網羅都臨近你。

那五王逃跑，藏在瑪基大洞裏。有人告訴約書亞說：「那五王已經找到了，都藏在瑪基大洞裏。」

耶和華興起，使地大震動的時候，人就進入石洞，進入土穴，躲避耶和華的驚嚇和他威嚴的榮光。

過了多日，你必被差派。到末後之年，你必來到脫離刀劍從列國收回之地，到以色列常久荒涼的山上；但那從列國中招聚出來的必在其上安然居住。

約書亞說：「打開洞口，將那五王從洞裏帶出來，領到我面前。」眾人就這樣行，將那五王，就是耶路撒冷王、希伯崙王、耶末王、拉吉王、伊磯倫王，從洞裏帶出來，領到約書亞面前。帶出那五王到約書亞面前的時候，約書亞就召了以色列眾人來，對那些和他同去的軍長說：「你們近前來，把腳踏在這些王的頸項上。」他們就近前來，把腳踏在這些王的頸項上。約書亞對他們說：「你們不要懼怕，也不要驚惶。應當剛強壯膽，因為耶和華必這樣待你們所要攻打的一切仇敵。」隨後約書亞將這五王殺死，掛在五棵樹上。他們就在樹上直掛到晚上。

他們只得屈身在被擄的人以下，仆倒在被殺的人以下。雖然如此，耶和華的怒氣還未轉消；他的手仍伸不縮。
