那天晚上，耶和华的使者出去，在亚述军营杀了十八万五千人。早上，他们起来的时候，看哪，到处都是死尸。

你满有羞辱，没有尊荣，你也喝到露出下体来吧！耶和华右手的杯必传回来给你，使极大的羞辱取代你的尊荣。因你向黎巴嫩使用暴力，杀灭惊吓野兽；又杀人流血，向全地各城和其中所有居民施行暴力，就必受到报应（“报应”原文作“遮盖”）。

亚述人来到亚叶，经过米矶仑；在密抹存放军队行装。他们过了隘口，在迦巴住宿；拉玛人战兢，扫罗的基比亚人逃跑。迦琳的居民哪，高声叫喊吧！莱煞人和可怜的亚拿突啊，留心听吧！玛得米那人逃跑，基柄的居民避难。就在今日，亚述王要停留在挪伯；他要挥拳攻击锡安居民（“居民”原文作“女子”）的山，就是耶路撒冷的山。

那时，以色列归耶和华为圣，作他初熟的土产。吞吃她的，都算为有罪，灾祸必临到他们。’”这是耶和华的宣告。

他们对他说：“希西家这样说：‘今天是痛苦、责罚和侮辱的日子，好像婴儿的产期到了，却没有力量生产。

因此，万军之耶和华以色列的神说：“我指着我的永生起誓：摩押人必要像所多玛，亚扪人必定像蛾摩拉，成为刺草和盐坑之所，永远荒凉之地。我余下的子民必掳掠他们，我国中所余的要得着他们为业。”由于他们的狂傲，这事就临到他们；因为他们自夸自大，辱骂万军之耶和华的子民。

这是你应得的，是我量给你的分。”这是耶和华的宣告。“因为你忘记了我，去倚靠虚假的偶像；

这是恶人从神所得的分，是神给他指定的产业。”

因为耶和华必为他们伸冤，抢夺他们的，耶和华也必夺取那人的性命。

耶和华啊，愿你所有的仇敌都这样灭亡；愿爱他的人像太阳出现，大有能力。”于是国中太平了四十年。

你这毁灭人，自己却不被毁灭的；你这行事诡诈，别人倒不以诡诈待你的，有祸了！你刚停止毁灭人的时候，自己就要被毁灭；你刚停止行诡诈的时候，别人就必以诡诈待你。

他们不必从田野捡柴，也不必从树林里伐木，因为他们必把武器当柴烧；他们必抢劫那些曾抢劫他们的人，掠夺那些掠夺他们的人。这是主耶和华的宣告。

但他很快就消逝，不再存在了；我寻找他，却找不到。
