因此，主—万军之耶和华必使亚述王的壮士变为瘦弱，在他的荣华之下必有火点燃，如同火在燃烧一般。以色列的光必变成火，它的圣者必成为火焰；一日之间，将亚述王的荆棘和蒺藜焚烧净尽，又毁灭树林和田园的荣华，连魂带体，好像病重的人消逝一样。他林中只剩下稀少的树木，连孩童也能写其数目。

耶和华必使人听见他威严的声音，又以极大的愤怒、吞灭的火焰、雷雨、暴风和像石块的冰雹，使人看见他降罚的膀臂。亚述必因耶和华的声音惊惶，耶和华必用杖击打它。耶和华必将定规要打的杖加在它身上；每打一下，都必配合击鼓弹琴的节奏。打仗时，耶和华必振臂与它交战。原来陀斐特早已预备好了，是为君王预备的；又深又宽，堆满了火和木柴；耶和华的气息犹如一股硫磺使它燃起。

当那日，亚述王要在挪伯停留，挥手攻击锡安的山，就是耶路撒冷的山。看哪，主—万军之耶和华以猛撞削断树枝；巨木必被砍下，高大的树必降为低。稠密的树林，他要用铁器砍下，黎巴嫩必被大能者伐倒。

所以，万军之主耶和华如此说：“住锡安我的百姓啊，亚述王虽然用棍击打你，又如埃及举杖攻击你，你不要怕他。因为还有一点点时候，我向你们发的愤怒就要结束，我的怒气要使他们灭亡。万军之耶和华要举起鞭子来攻击他，好像在俄立磐石那里击打米甸人一样。他的杖向海伸出，他必把杖举起，如在埃及一般。到那日，亚述王的重担必离开你的肩头，他的轭必离开你的颈项；那轭必因肥壮而撑断。”

耶和华折断恶人的杖，打断统治者的权杖；

亚述必倒在刀下，并非人的刀；有刀要将它吞灭，并非人的刀。它要逃避这刀，它的年轻人必做苦工。它的磐石必因惊吓而消失，它的领袖必因大旗惊惶；这是那有火在锡安、有炉在耶路撒冷的耶和华说的。

主在锡安山和耶路撒冷成就他一切工作的时候，说：“我必惩罚亚述王自大的心和他高傲尊贵的眼目。”

你和你的全军，并跟随你的列国的人，都必倒在以色列的群山上。我要将你给各类攫食的飞鸟和野地的走兽作食物。

唉！万民闹哄，好像海浪澎湃，列邦喧闹，如同洪水滔滔，列邦喧闹，如同大水滔滔；但上帝一斥责，他们就远远躲避，他们被追赶，如同山上风前的糠秕，又如暴风前的碎秸；看哪，晚上有惊吓，未到早晨它就消失无踪。这是掳掠我们之人的厄运，是抢夺我们之人的报应。
