鵜鶘和豪豬將占有那地，貓頭鷹和烏鴉將居住其中；耶和華要把準繩和線砣拉在其上，使它變得空虛混沌。那裡沒有貴族來宣稱王權，所有的首領也都歸於無有。它的城堡將長出荊棘，堡壘長出灌木叢和蒺藜；它必成為豺狗的巢、鴕鳥的窩。曠野的走獸要與土狼相遇，野山羊要呼叫同伴，夜行動物要在那裡棲身，為自己找到歇息之處。貓頭鷹要在那裡築窩、下蛋、孵化，並在它的陰影下聚攏幼雛；鷹隼也在那裡各與自己的伴偶聚集。

隨後，一位強有力的天使拿起一塊像大磨石那樣的石頭，把它丟進海裡，說：「大巴比倫城也將這樣被猛烈地扔下去，絕不會再找到了！彈琴的、奏樂的、吹笛的、吹號之人的聲音，在你中間絕不會再聽到了！各種手藝的工匠，在你中間絕不會再找到了！磨石的聲音，在你中間絕不會再聽到了！燈的亮光，在你中間絕不會再照耀了！新郎和新娘的聲音，在你中間絕不會再聽到了！因為你的商人一向是地上的大人物，又因為萬國都被你的邪術所迷惑，

另一位天使，就是第二位天使跟著說：「倒塌了！大巴比倫倒塌了！她給萬國喝了她淫亂憤怒的酒。」

他用強有力的聲音呼喊說：「倒塌了！大巴比倫倒塌了！她成了鬼魔居住的地方、一切汙靈的巢穴、一切汙穢鳥類的巢穴、一切汙穢可憎野獸的巢穴。
