“ They sow the wind and reap the whirlwind. The stalk has no head; it will produce no flour. Were it to yield grain, foreigners would swallow it up.

The Lord says,“ Worshiping other gods is like worshiping the wind. It is like planting worthless seeds. Assyria is like a windstorm. That is all my people will harvest. 不要自欺，神是不可輕慢的。人種的是甚麼，收的也是甚麼：

耶和華不輕易發怒，可是大有能力；他絕不以有罪的為無罪。耶和華乘著狂風暴雨而來，雲彩是他腳下的塵土。

外族人吞吃了他的力量，他卻不知道；他頭上滿是白髮，他也不曉得。

看哪！耶和華必在火中降臨，他的戰車好像旋風；他要以猛烈的怒氣施行報應，用火燄施行斥責。

他怎樣來，也要怎樣去，這也是令人痛心的憾事；他為風勞碌，有甚麼益處呢？

因此，到了收割的時候，到了出酒的季節，我必收回五穀和新酒；用來給她遮蔽裸體的羊毛和麻布，我也必奪回。

你土地的出產和你勞碌得來的一切，都必被你不認識的民族吃盡；你必常常受壓迫和壓制；

你們要為自己撒種公義，就能收割慈愛的果子，你們要翻鬆荒地。現在是尋求耶和華的時候，直等到他來，降下公義的雨在你們身上。你們耕種奸惡，收割不義，自吃謊言的果子；因為你倚靠自己的能力和眾多的勇士。

又在你栽種的日子裡，細心地在周圍圈上籬笆，到早晨，又使你所栽種的開花，但在愁苦與極度傷痛的日子裡，所收割的就只有一小堆。

亞述王普勒來攻打以色列地，米拿現給普勒三萬公斤銀子，請普勒幫助他堅固王位。

他們種的是小麥，收的卻是荊棘；雖然筋疲力竭，卻一無所獲。因耶和華的烈怒，他們必為自己的（“自己的”原文作“你們的”）出產羞愧（本句或譯：“你們必為你們的農穫羞愧”）。

於是耶和華的怒氣向以色列發作，常把他們交在亞蘭王哈薛的手中和哈薛的兒子便．哈達的手中。約哈斯懇求耶和華，耶和華垂聽他的禱告，因為看見了以色列所受的壓迫，就是亞蘭王對他們的壓迫。耶和華就賜給以色列一位拯救者，他救他們脫離亞蘭王的手，於是以色列人可以在自己的家安居，好像以前一樣。可是他們沒有離開耶羅波安家使以色列人陷於罪中的那些罪，仍然行在罪中；亞舍拉依然立在撒瑪利亞。於是耶和華沒有給約哈斯留下餘民，只剩下騎兵五十人，戰車十輛和步兵一萬人，因為亞蘭王毀滅他們，踐踏他們好像禾場上的塵土。

每逢以色列人撒種以後，米甸人、亞瑪力人和東方人都上來，欺壓他們；對著他們安營，毀壞那地的出產，直到迦薩一帶，他們沒有留下牛、羊和驢，沒有給以色列人留下一點養生之物。因為他們帶著牲畜和帳棚上來，像蝗蟲那麼多；他們來的人和駱駝無數，進入境內，毀壞全地。以色列人在米甸人面前，落到極卑微的地步，他們就哀求耶和華。

以色列王比加在位的日子，亞述王提革拉．毗列色前來，攻取了以雲、亞伯．伯．瑪迦、亞挪、基低斯、夏瑣、基列、加利利和拿弗他利全地，把居民擄到亞述去。
