The people of Ephraim mix with the nations. They are like a thin loaf of bread that is baked on only one side.

“ The people of Israel mingle with godless foreigners, making themselves as worthless as a half baked cake!

Ephraim has allowed himself to get mixed up with the nations. Ephraim is unturned bread baked on a griddle.

Ephraim is himself thrown about with the nations; Ephraim has become a round loaf not turned over.

“ Ephraim has mixed himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake unturned.

Ephraim, he mixeth himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake not turned.

Ephraim has allowed himself to get mixed up with the nations. Ephraim is unturned bread baked on a griddle.

Ephraim has mixed itself like flour among the nations; Ephraim is like a ruined cake of bread that is scorched on one side.

but they mixed with the nations and learned to do as they did.

Therefore do not give your daughters to their sons, neither take their daughters for your sons, and never seek their peace or prosperity, that you may be strong and eat the good of the land and leave it for an inheritance to your children forever.’

In those days also I saw the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab.And half of their children spoke the language of Ashdod, and they could not speak the language of Judah, but only the language of each people.And I confronted them and cursed them and beat some of them and pulled out their hair. And I made them take an oath in the name of God, saying,“ You shall not give your daughters to their sons, or take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves.

After these things had been done, the officials approached me and said,“ The people of Israel and the priests and the Levites have not separated themselves from the peoples of the lands with their abominations, from the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

Judah has been faithless, and abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the Lord, which he loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.

And Elijah came near to all the people and said,“ How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word.

When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his wound, then Ephraim went to Assyria, and sent to the great king. But he is not able to cure you or heal your wound.

those who bow down on the roofs to the host of the heavens, those who bow down and swear to the Lord and yet swear by Milcom,

“ No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

They have dealt faithlessly with the Lord; for they have borne alien children. Now the new moon shall devour them with their fields.

They shall not remain in the land of the Lord, but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean food in Assyria.

Oholah was the name of the elder and Oholibah the name of her sister. They became mine, and they bore sons and daughters. As for their names, Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem.“ Oholah played the whore while she was mine, and she lusted after her lovers the Assyrians, warriorsclothed in purple, governors and commanders, all of them desirable young men, horsemen riding on horses.She bestowed her whoring upon them, the choicest men of Assyria all of them, and she defiled herself with all the idols of everyone after whom she lusted.She did not give up her whoring that she had begun in Egypt; for in her youth men had lain with her and handled her virgin bosom and poured out their whoring lust upon her.Therefore I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, into the hands of the Assyrians, after whom she lusted.These uncovered her nakedness; they seized her sons and her daughters; and as for her, they killed her with the sword; and she became a byword among women, when judgment had been executed on her.“ Her sister Oholibah saw this, and she became more corrupt than her sister in her lust and in her whoring, which was worse than that of her sister.

To me they cry,“ My God, we— Israel— know you.”Israel has spurned the good; the enemy shall pursue him.They made kings, but not through me. They set up princes, but I knew it not. With their silver and gold they made idols for their own destruction.

“‘ I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot!So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.
