I know all about Ephraim; Israel is not hidden from me. Ephraim, you have now turned to prostitution; Israel is corrupt.

I know all about the people of Ephraim. What Israel is doing is not hidden from me. Now they have joined themselves to other gods. They have made themselves‘ unclean.’

I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from me; for now, O Ephraim, you have played the whore; Israel is defiled.

I know what you are like, O Ephraim. You cannot hide yourself from me, O Israel. You have left me as a prostitute leaves her husband; you are utterly defiled.

Because Aram, with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has planned evil against you, saying,

For I know your offenses are many and your sins are great, You who are hostile to the righteous and accept bribes, And turn away the poor from justice at the gate.

For the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is Rezin( now within another sixty five years Ephraim will be broken to pieces, so that it is no longer a people),and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah. If you will not believe, you certainly shall not last.” ’ ”

When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling. He exalted himself in Israel, But through Baal he incurred guilt and died.

Moreover, the Lord will raise up for Himself a king over Israel who will eliminate the house of Jeroboam this day and from now on.“ For the Lord will strike Israel, just as a reed sways in the water; and He will uproot Israel from this good land which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the Euphrates River, because they have made their Asherim, provoking the Lord to anger.He will give up Israel because of the sins of Jeroboam, which he committed and with which he misled Israel into sin.”

The Lord will bring on you, on your people, and on your father’s house such days as have not come since the day that Ephraim separated from Judah— the days of the king of Assyria.”

What shall I do with you, Ephraim? What shall I do with you, Judah? For your loyalty is like a morning cloud, And like the dew which goes away early.

As the firstborn of his ox, majesty is his, And his horns are the horns of the wild ox; With them he will gore the peoples All at once, to the ends of the earth. And those are the ten thousands of Ephraim, And those are the thousands of Manasseh.”

But his father refused and said,“ I know, my son, I know; he also will become a people and he also will be great. However, his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his descendants shall become a multitude of nations.”So he blessed them that day, saying,“ By you Israel will pronounce blessing, saying,‘ May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh!’ ” And so he put Ephraim before Manasseh.

‘ I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot.

And Jeroboam said in his heart,“ Now the kingdom will return to the house of David.If this people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will return to their lord, to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”So the king consulted, and he made two golden calves; and he said to the people,“ It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem; behold your gods, Israel, that brought you up from the land of Egypt.”And he set up one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.Now this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one as far as Dan.And he made houses on high places, and appointed priests from all the people who were not of the sons of Levi.Jeroboam also instituted a feast in the eighth month on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar. So he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves which he had made. And he stationed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made.Then he went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, the month that he had devised in his own heart; and he instituted a feast for the sons of Israel and went up to the altar to burn incense.

When Ephraim saw his sickness, And Judah his sore, Ephraim then went to Assyria And sent word to King Jareb. But he is unable to heal you, Or to cure you of your sore.

Ephraim feeds on wind, And pursues the east wind continually; He multiplies lies and violence. Moreover, he makes a covenant with Assyria, And oil is brought to Egypt.

“ Oholah prostituted herself while she was Mine; and she lusted after her lovers, after the Assyrians, her neighbors,who were clothed in purple, governors and officials, all of them handsome young men, horsemen riding on horses.She bestowed her obscene practices on them, all of whom were the choicest men of Assyria; and with all whom she lusted after, with all their idols she defiled herself.She did not abandon her obscene practices from the time in Egypt; for in her youth men had slept with her, and they handled her virgin breasts and poured out their obscene practice on her.Therefore, I handed her over to her lovers, to the Assyrians, after whom she lusted.They uncovered her nakedness; they took her sons and her daughters, but they killed her with the sword. So she became a subject of gossip among women, and they executed judgments on her.“ Now her sister Oholibah saw this, yet she was more corrupt in her lust than she, and her obscene practices were more than the prostitution of her sister.She lusted after the Assyrians, governors and officials, the ones near, opulently dressed, horsemen riding on horses, all of them handsome young men.And I saw that she had defiled herself; they both took the same way.So she increased her obscene practices. And she saw men carved on the wall, images of the Chaldeans drawn in bright red,wearing belts around their waists, with flowing turbans on their heads, all of them looking like officers, like the Babylonians in Chaldea, the land of their birth.And when she saw them she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea.And the Babylonians came to her to the bed of love and defiled her with their obscene practice. And when she had been defiled by them, she turned away from them in disgust.She exposed her obscene practices and exposed her nakedness; then I turned away from her in disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister in disgust.Yet she multiplied her obscene practices, remembering the days of her youth, when she prostituted herself in the land of Egypt.She lusted after their lovers, whose flesh is like the flesh of donkeys and whose discharge is like the discharge of horses.So you longed for the outrageous sin of your youth, when the Egyptians handled your breasts because of the breasts of your youth.

Ephraim is oppressed, broken by judgment, Because he was determined to follow man’s command.

Since Ephraim has multiplied altars for sin, They have become altars of sinning for him.

And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we must answer.

Ephraim will become a desolation in the day of rebuke; Among the tribes of Israel I make known what is trustworthy.

Ephraim is allied with idols; Leave him alone.Their liquor is gone, They prostitute themselves continually; Their rulers dearly love shame.
