The rebels are knee- deep in slaughter. I will discipline all of them.

You refuse to obey me. You are knee- deep in killing. So I will punish all of you.

You have dug a deep pit to trap them at Acacia Grove. But I will settle with you for what you have done.

Those who try to hide their plans from the LORD are as good as dead, who do their work in secret and boast,“ Who sees us? Who knows what we’re doing?”

The company of priests is like a gang of robbers, lying in ambush to pounce on a victim. They commit murder on the road to Shechem; they have done heinous crimes!

Then some people said,“ Come on! Let us consider how to deal with Jeremiah! There will still be priests to instruct us, wise men to give us advice, and prophets to declare God’s word. Come on! Let’s bring charges against him and get rid of him! Then we will not need to pay attention to anything he says.”

The LORD gave me knowledge, that I might have understanding. Then he showed me what the people were doing.Before this I had been like a docile lamb ready to be led to the slaughter. I did not know they were making plans to kill me. I did not know they were saying,“ Let’s destroy the tree along with its fruit! Let’s remove Jeremiah from the world of the living so people will not even be reminded of him any more.”

O LORD, rescue me from wicked men! Protect me from violent men,who plan ways to harm me. All day long they stir up conflict.Their tongues wound like a serpent; a viper’s venom is behind their lips.( Selah)O LORD, shelter me from the power of the wicked! Protect me from violent men, who plan to knock me over.Proud men hide a snare for me; evil men spread a net by the path; they set traps for me.( Selah)

The chief priests and the experts in the law were trying to find some way to execute Jesus, for they were afraid of the people.Then Satan entered Judas, the one called Iscariot, who was one of the twelve.He went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers of the temple guard how he might betray Jesus, handing him over to them.They were delighted and arranged to give him money.

All those I love, I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent!

There is only cursing, lying, murder, stealing, and adultery. They resort to violence and bloodshed.

When morning came, the Jews formed a conspiracy and bound themselves with an oath not to eat or drink anything until they had killed Paul.There were more than forty of them who formed this conspiracy.They went to the chief priests and the elders and said,“ We have bound ourselves with a solemn oath not to partake of anything until we have killed Paul.So now you and the council request the commanding officer to bring him down to you, as if you were going to determine his case by conducting a more thorough inquiry. Why do you insist on being battered? Why do you continue to rebel? Your head has a massive wound, your whole body is weak.

LORD, I know you look for faithfulness. But even when you punish these people, they feel no remorse. Even when you nearly destroy them, they refuse to be corrected. They have become as hardheaded as a rock. They refuse to change their ways.

I reported,“ All of them are the most stubborn of rebels! They are as hard as bronze or iron. They go about telling lies. They all deal corruptly.

“ But surely I gave you no food to eat in any of your cities; you lacked food everywhere you live. Still you did not come back to me.” The LORD is speaking!“ I withheld rain from you three months before the harvest. I gave rain to one city, but not to another. One field would get rain, but the field that received no rain dried up.People from two or three cities staggered into one city to get water, but remained thirsty. Still you did not come back to me.” The LORD is speaking!“ I destroyed your crops with blight and disease. Locusts kept devouring your orchards, vineyards, fig trees, and olive trees. Still you did not come back to me.” The LORD is speaking!“ I sent against you a plague like one of the Egyptian plagues. I killed your young men with the sword, along with the horses you had captured. I made the stench from the corpses rise up into your nostrils. Still you did not come back to me.” The LORD is speaking!“ I overthrew some of you the way God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. You were like a burning stick snatched from the flames. Still you did not come back to me.” The LORD is speaking!“ Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel. Because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, Israel!

“ For the last twenty-three years, from the thirteenth year that Josiah son of Amon was ruling in Judah until now, the LORD has been speaking to me. I told you over and over again what he said. But you would not listen.Over and over again the LORD has sent his servants the prophets to you. But you have not listened or paid attention.He said through them,‘ Each of you must turn from your wicked ways and stop doing the evil things you are doing. If you do, I will allow you to continue to live here in the land that I gave to you and your ancestors as a lasting possession.Do not pay allegiance to other gods and worship and serve them. Do not make me angry by the things that you do. Then I will not cause you any harm.’So, now the LORD says,‘ You have not listened to me. But you have made me angry by the things that you have done. Thus you have brought harm on yourselves.’

They sharpen their tongues like a sword; they aim their arrow, a slanderous charge,in order to shoot down the innocent in secluded places. They shoot at him suddenly and are unafraid of retaliation.They encourage one another to carry out their evil deed. They plan how to hide snares, and boast,“ Who will see them?”They devise unjust schemes; they disguise a well-conceived plot. Man’s inner thoughts cannot be discovered.

The filthy, stained city is as good as dead; the city filled with oppressors is finished!She is disobedient; she refuses correction. She does not trust the LORD; she does not seek the advice of her God.

Therefore, I will certainly cut you into pieces at the hands of the prophets; I will certainly kill you in fulfillment of my oracles of judgment; for my judgment will come forth like the light of the dawn.
