So Tilgath pilneser king of Assyria came against him and afflicted him instead of strengthening him.Although Ahaz took a portion out of the house of the Lord and out of the palace of the king and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria, it did not help him.Now during the time of his distress, this same King Ahaz became even more unfaithful to the Lord.

“ For this is what the Lord says:‘ Your broken limb is irreparable, And your wound is incurable.There is no one to plead your cause; No healing for your sore, No recovery for you.All your lovers have forgotten you, They do not seek you; For I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, With the punishment of a cruel one, Because your wrongdoing is great, And your sins are numerous.Why do you cry out over your injury? “ In those days and at that time,” declares the Lord,“ the sons of Israel will come, they and the sons of Judah as well; they will go along weeping as they go, and it will be the Lord their God whom they will seek.They will ask for the way to Zion, turning their faces in its direction; they will come so that they may join themselves to the Lord in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten.

Return to your rest, my soul, For the Lord has dealt generously with you.

Otherwise, you may say in your heart,‘ My power and the strength of my hand made me this wealth.’But you are to remember the Lord your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth, in order to confirm His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

Then you took your colorfully woven cloth and covered them, and offered My oil and My incense before them.

And whatever comes into your mind certainly will not come about, when you say:‘ We will be like the nations, like the families of the lands, serving wood and stone.’

“ Return, you faithless sons, I will heal your faithlessness.”“ Behold, we come to You; For You are the Lord our God.Certainly the hills are a deception, Commotion on the mountains. Certainly in the Lord our God Is the salvation of Israel.“ But the shame has consumed the product of our fathers’ labor since our youth— their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.Let us lie down in our shame, and let our humiliation cover us; for we have sinned against the Lord our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day. And we have not obeyed the voice of the Lord our God.”

Let’s examine and search out our ways, And let’s return to the Lord.We raise our heart and hands Toward God in heaven;We have done wrong and rebelled; You have not pardoned.

This sentence is by the decree of the angelic watchers, And the decision is a command of the holy ones, In order that the living may know That the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind, And He grants it to whomever He wishes And sets over it the lowliest of people.”

“ Then it shall come about when the Lord your God brings you into the land that He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you, great and splendid cities which you did not build,and houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and carved cisterns which you did not carve out, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, and you eat and are satisfied,be careful that you do not forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

He was given grass to eat like cattle, and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he recognized that the Most High God is ruler over the realm of mankind, and that He sets over it whomever He wishes.
